“Just last week we released an article on a new wedge shell from Vagabond Outdoors (@vagabond_outdoors). It challenged the existing options from Go Fast Campers (@gfc_usa), and we knew it was only a matter of time before AT Overland released their own wedge shell. After all, we had first talked to them about it over a year ago. Well, our patience was finally rewarded at Overland Expo with the introduction of the Summit. This next evolution in AT’s product line is designed to bridge the gap between a traditional truck cap and a slide-in camper. Like the other wedge-style shells we have covered in recent months, it is designed to be spacious and lightweight and also boasts a range of optional features that could place it squarely in the lead for comfort—but at the high end of the price range in the market. I had the opportunity to spend a night in it this past weekend and decided to throw in some of my initial impressions along with this first look.”

How To Motivate Your Significant Other To Travel Overland

“Often we meet people as we travel who would love to explore as we do but have one serious problem: their spouse hates camping. If this is your problem then we suggest that you try the following Travel Indoctrination Campaign (TIC) utilising Behaviour Modification Training (BMT). It would be a shame to go through all the expense and effort of building the perfect overland vehicle and planning the most amazing overland route and STILL not being able to get your significant other out of the house.

The BMT will include elements of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and will be purely Carrot based, as it is unadvisable and unproductive to use the Stick method.

The TIC will not be cheap or quick and will require significant effort on your part but, once you have done the preliminary leg work and established a rhythm, you will find that the TIC will be successful beyond your wildest dreams. We all know that true happiness can be found in the great outdoors, your beloved will thank you, one day.

For the purposes of this exercise we will not assume gender....”

Old-School Cool: Classic 4×4’s of Overland Expo

“When it comes to four-wheel drives, most of us have our brand loyalties. Heck, we even debate which tires, tents, and other accessories are best, but if there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that vintage four-wheel drives are awesome. It doesn’t matter if their lines are sharp and square, or round and wandering. They could be tipped with chrome accents, adorned in wood paneling, or even painted in teal. Whatever their features, these beautiful off-road trucks and SUV’s stir our souls, and beckon us to the world ahead. Sadly, the days of these classic overlander trucks are rapidly drawing to a close. Each year we see fewer and fewer on the road, but Overland Expo provides a rare chance to see dozens of these works of art in one place. This year’s event was no exception, and we snapped some photos of a few of our favorites. Check them on our site, and be sure to let us know which one you would drive home.”

Pictures are starting coming out of @overlandexpo 2018!

It's Official. Jason Cornell and his son found the SEAHOLM Offshore Diver watch! Congratulations to this great father and son team who put their geocaching skills to work using only the first set of rudimentary clues and a the picture we posted of the view. Well done and well deserved, I have a feeling this watch, and its story, will be in their family for generations to come. Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm! #overlandjournal #expeditionportal @seaholmautomatic

Vagabond Outdoors Drifter Shell (@vagabond_outdoors)

“The pop-top camper shell market has exploded with activity lately. It started with the release of the AT Overland habitat back in 2016 and then heated up with the Go Fast Camper (GFC) which hit the market earlier this year. Now a new contender has entered the ring, and it’s called the Drifter.
.
The Drifter is made by a company called Vagabond Outdoors. Their team of craftsmen has been making off-road products for some time now, and you might recognize their work from vehicles like Jon Burtt’s Tacoma, which you can see on his Instagram page @vagabond_outdoors . The Drifter is their answer to an ever-growing demand for a lightweight, durable, and usable living space on four-wheel-drive trucks. It’s made entirely from aluminum, and features a one-piece insulated lid designed to help control interior temperature while reducing condensation.
.
Unlike the GFC (@gfc_usa), the Drifter has solid sides that don’t fold up, which has both positive and negative aspects. The downside is that the cargo area will likely be harder to access, but on the positive side it will be far better sealed against the elements. Most people will be storing all sorts of valuable equipment and systems inside these canopies, so the last thing you need is any dust or water incursion to your living space.”

It's a Treasure Hunt. More Clues!
.
“As you begin to make your way through Northern Arizona keep in mind the entry point clues we’ve given previously. Each of those coordinates is where pavement meets dirt. To hide the SEAHOLM treasure we found a lil round tank as we searched for a pocket away from the sunset and ventured towards the views to place the bounty off the edge of the world! Find the vista from where you may enjoy a night under the stars and consider the most adventurous looking place to take a picture with a 270-degree panorama that would include your camp. If you think you know, don’t get too ambitious. We went just so far as to not put anyone in harms way. There is no path until there is one and you cannot drive there, you’ll be on foot. Before stepping down reconsider safety and look to the trees where the Offshore Diver has made a nest.”

“Remember those treasure hunts you dreamed of as a kid? Those adventures where you’d don your Indiana Jones hat and drive off into the sunset in search of riches hidden deep in the wilderness? Well, we’ve teamed up with Seaholm Watches to make those dreams come true. Somewhere in Northern Arizona we’ve hidden a $2,000 Offshore Diver watch in a bright orange case. It’s perfectly positioned for pickup on your way to or from the Overland Expo, and the first person to find it wins! The finder will also win a three year subscription to Overland Journal, and a bonus prize pack of swag.
.
So what’s the catch? Well, there are 120,000 people out there with the same information you have! If someone beats you to the watch, just post a picture of yourself at the location, and you’ll still receive a mini-subscription to Overland Journal. It’s not worth $2,000, but it does contain a wealth of adventure”
