This memory & picture with my soul sister @natashaswinter makes me smile, and makes me think of supporting each other. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Prior to having my son, I’d heard the word ‘anxiety’ but had zero idea what it meant, or felt like.... I would empathize with some of my closest friends who dealt with panic attacks, but really I didn’t have the first clue what that was like.
When Zander was a few months old, from what felt like out of the blue, I started having insane episodes of insomnia that were triggered by racing thoughts, increased heart rate and what felt like a weight sitting on my chest. I didn’t have a name to call it, I had no experience with this ever happening, I just literally lost my mind and didn’t sleep for almost a week during my longest episode. It was AW - FUL!
I’d been given this beautiful baby boy, with a side of crippling anxiety.
It took me FOREVER to figure out I had postpartum and to get help.... my emotions felt so out of control & overwhelming for WAY too long.
After that experience, it has felt so important for me to speak up about it; had I heard about postpartum/postpartum anxiety sooner, it would have been such a relief!
I still experience anxiety, and sometimes still have really tough nights of sleep... both of which I experienced last night & today.
After beginning to share my story and speak up, I found SO many people deal with anxiety and it is unfortunately very common.
If you are experiencing anxiety today like I am, maybe in this moment... I see you. I love you.
You are NOT alone. Just because it is common doesn’t make it any less real.
