Elena Kanagy-Loux  I’m actually a pile of doilies disguised as a person🕸 Collections Specialist at @metmuseum #RattiCenter 💘 Founder of @brooklynlaceguild 💘

There’s a misconception that naturally dyed textiles were dull and lacked the vibrant hue of later synthetic pigments. But at the #RattiTextileCenter we see brightly-colored historic textiles every day, like this 18th-century silk designed by Philippe DeSalle and painstakingly woven by hand in Lyon. I thought it was perfect for today’s #GeorgianJanuary theme of #colorful 🌈

For today’s #GeorgianJanuary theme #feminine, I had to share one of my favorite paintings of Mme de Pompadour at her toilette by François Boucher. I took this on a visit to the Fogg Museum at Harvard almost exactly two years ago, I’m due for another!💄 I have to give credit to @susan_holloway_scott_author for inspiring me with her earlier post, but what could be more perfect? ❤️

If November 1st is the start of the Christmas season, then January 1st should be the start of the Valentine’s Day season, don’t you agree? 💘💕💖 This is a look from last year, but planning many more! Have to switch out my holiday decorations this weekend 💌 Wearing all @limecrimemakeup with #VenusXL on eyes, and Diamond Crushers on lips 👄 Hearts are the @milkmakeup stamp 🖤

I had to make one last pilgrimage to the #Pinkexhibition at the @museumatfit today 💖 It was such a thrill to see my favorite color explored on such a grand scale, and even to be a tiny part of it. Between that and the new #FabricsinFashion show upstairs, it feels like many of my favorite under-appreciated topics (textiles, pink, and all things feminine) are finally getting their due! Looking forward to more in 2019 💘

For today’s #GeorgianJanuary theme of #Handmade, a detail of one of my favorite pastels that was on view at the @metmuseum in 2017. Charles Antoine Coypel skillfully highlighted all the details of the (I believe) needle-made lace trims, as well as the lady sitter’s silver knotting shuttle. I stared at this for hours when it was on view! 😍💘💕

Sticking to my tradition of wearing all white on New Year’s Day to set my intentions for the year ☁️ I was sick yesterday so we stayed in, which was just what I needed to reset for today. Spending the day with family cooking traditional Japanese New Years food, feeling ready to take on 2019!! I hope you are all relaxing and restoring yourselves today ❤️

Looking back at the highlights of 2018, this has been a really momentous year for me 💘 I was featured in one of my favorite magazines, presented on lace at the @costumesocietyamerica conference, finished my MA at @nyucostumestudies, collaborated on a lace event at @yalebritishart, went to Belgium for a lace conference, and landed my dream job in textiles at the @metmuseum #RattiTextileCenter 💕 I can’t yet share what was perhaps the coolest project I worked on this year, but I hope to soon! I’m so grateful for all the opportunities I had this year, and I really hope everyone has an amazing 2019!!

After almost a year with pink hair @shannonxgoodrum at @ionstudionyc is taking me back to silvery platinum!! My hair is so long and healthy thanks to Shannon, she’s a pro at blondes if you ever need a touch up in NYC 💖 Wearing @limecrimemakeup #WetCherry gloss on lips and #Venus III on eyes, with @katvondbeauty Alchemist palette on eyes and cheeks & a touch of @anastasiabeverlyhills Modern Renaissance palette. Hat is @ixdoxdeclare & everything else is vintage! 💖

It sounds like everyone would like to see more lace videos in 2019, and I am happy to oblige! I have a few projects of my own design that I plan to begin asap, so I will document their progress with time lapse videos. 💘 If you’re inspired to try bobbin lace yourself, there are still a few seats left in my one day class on January 6 at the @textileartscenter in Brooklyn! Learning a new skill is the perfect way to start a new year 💝 Sign up at the link:

When I started this account years ago it was just to share snapshots of my life with friends and family, I never imagined that I would gain any sort of following. I have continued to stay to true to myself with what I post, rather than cater to likes. However, I really am grateful for this platform and for each one of you that follow me!! Instagram has its problems of course but I love the way it allows us to connect with other creative individuals across the globe. So I thought I’d ask, what do you like seeing in my posts, and what do you want to see more of in 2019?? I’d love to do more looks, and hopefully some longer time lapse lace videos 💘💘💘 Photo by @rcallahanphoto

For all the time I spend at the @metmuseum I don’t go into the galleries nearly enough! Check out some of the beautiful things I saw tonight in my stories 🥀 Painting is a floral still life by Severin Roesen circa the 1850s from the @metamericanwing 🌹

Had a cute date with my boo @brookmachatte tonight at the @metmuseum 💙 Wearing my new tulip print dress from @ann.tique 🌷
