A gem from our friends at the @museumofcityny. "Captured by photographer Edmund Vincent Gillon ca. 1974, this is from one of the many Brooklyn neighborhoods that have changed dramatically in the last several decades: DUMBO. Gillon took this photograph from inside Empire Stores, a former warehouse for goods being shipped in and out of New York City, which was left empty and abandoned in 1970s NYC. When this photo was taken, DUMBO was a waterfront neighborhood of artists and many abandoned industrial warehouses like Empire Stores, but today, DUMBO is one of the most expensive places to live in the city. The neighborhood, with the adjoining @brooklynbridgepark and attractions like @grimaldispizzeria & @janescarousel, is a top tourist attraction and a bustling destination to visit any day of the week. And added bonus: you can learn even more history at our friends @brooklynhistory's "Waterfront" exhibition, located in the newly renovated Empire Stores building!"
