Perspective is key... #Repost @joerogan
Just look at that horrifying, magnificent sky monster. Imagine if you were living a thousand years ago and something like this hit your village. You would be convinced you suffered the wrath of an angry god. I'm sure just like how there's a few goofy assholes today blaming hurricanes on gay marriage or Donald Trump there were probably cult leaders back then claiming private conversations with such angry gods, laying out the demands to avoid further horrors.
The truth is we live on an insanely volatile planet and 10,000 years before the industrial revolution North America was covered by a mile of ice and bears the size of a Winnebago hunted human beings on the Bering land bridge.
We have less than 2 human lifetimes of recorded weather history, and according to people far smarter than me our actions are making this shit a whole lot worse.
My best wishes and thoughts to everyone in the path of the sky beast.
Stay safe, my friends.
Astronaut Randy 'Komrade' Bresnik (@AstroKomrade) shared this image of Hurricane Irma this evening saying "The tentacles of the bow wave of #Irma clawing its way up Florida." Bresnik is currently living and working in space on the International Space Station (@ISS). Hurricane Irma formed in the Atlantic Ocean and has affected the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, before impacting the United States. Our fleet of satellites have been continually providing forecasters with data on Hurricane Irma. That includes satellite imagery for Irma, plus trajectory, force and precipitation tracking to inform the National Hurricane Center.
