#TBT to some of the fabulous fashion flaunted at last week's #ElMuseoGala2017!

A tremendous thank you to everyone who joined us last night for a fantastic evening to celebrate #WomenintheArts. A special thank you to our sponsor @donjuliotequila for bringing an extra kick to the party! #DonJulio70 #ElMuseoGala2017 #MetLife #MetLifeFoundation #NewYorkCityCouncil

Looking forward to tonight, honoring #WomenintheArts at the #ElMuseoGala2017! This year, we honor these #female #powerhouses in the #cultural sector. Thank you to our sponsor #DonJulio, set to be a great night! #CarmenHerrera #NancyGonzalez #MelissaMarkViverito #NewYorkCityCouncil #ElizabethNieto #MetLife #MetLifeFoundation

Our #WCW today is Lourdes Bernard, our newest #BackinFive #AristinResidence! Originally from the #DominicanRepublic, Lourdes grew up in #Brooklyn and studied #architecture at Syracuse University. Her #residency at #ElMuseo will create a visual document of the April 1865 war in the Dominican Republic, drawing upon literary sources from El Museo's expansive reference library. Lourdes will be on-site live in #LasGalerias starting today until July 2.

#ElMuseo's Director of Education and Public Programs Maite Basaguren (not pictured), Public Programs and Engagement Coordinator Richard Morales, and Director of Government and Community Affairs Ana Chireno present #ElBarrio's own Jesús Papoleto Meléndez with an honorary engraved gift of his original poem, A Grain of Sand, that he wrote and shared with the community during this year's #ThreeKingsDay parade. Papoleto invited us into his home and into what he calls his own "museum" of writings, images, art work, and more. We are very honored to present him with this well deserved award!

¡Feliz #CincodeMayo, everyone! In honor of this celebratory #Mexican #holiday, here's a look at some #artworks from our #collection made by some fantastic Mexican artists. #FelizCincodeMayo #MexicanArt #GabrieldelaMora #AlfredofeStefano #FlorGarduño #RufinoTamayo

We had a wonderful time today at our #CoquíClub: Mi #Barrio! Our young visitors learned about #ElBarrio through #storytelling and a #scavergerhunt, and they made chalk #murals together that reflected their #neighborhoods and #communities.

We are thrilled to announce Patrick Charpenel as our next Executive Director! Patrick brings an extensive range of curatorial experiences, with a track record of advancing international education in and reception of Latin American art and culture. He looks forward to positioning our institution on an international scale and continuing to develop high-impact public programming that shapes it as a platform for the best of modern and contemporary Latino and Latin American Art. #ElMuseodelBarrio #ElMuseo #LatinxArt

Today marks the start of #NationalTeacherAppreciationWeek! Here are two photos from our professional development class for teachers last summer—the course was called “Learning About Your Community Through Cultural Celebrations.” #ProfessionalDevelopment #TeachersofInstagram #ArtEducation #Educators

We hope to see you tomorrow night at the Museum of the City of New York (@museumofcityny)! We're joining #MCNY in celebrating how #Cuba’s #love of #music and #dance has mixed and melded with #PuertoRican and #AfroCaribbean rhythms to create a sizzling cultural #fusion unique to #NewYorkCity. Visit our website for more information.

Here’s a peek at Andy Robert’s (@labou_a) #studio at #TheStudioMuseuminHarlem! Like El Museo’s #BackinFive Artist Residency program in #LasGalerias, the Studio Museum’s #artistresidency program supports #emergingartists by providing them a space for work, dialogue, and exhibition.

The “Artist-in-Residence” program was one of the Studio Museum’s founding initiatives, and gives the Museum the “Studio” in its name. Since 1968, The Studio Museum in Harlem’s “Artist-in-Residence” program has nurtured and supported more than one hundred emerging artists of #African and #Latino descent. This year, Andy is joined by fellow artists Julia Phillips and Autumn Knight (@autkni) for the program, and the three will show their work in a culminating #exhibition at the #museum this September! #MuseumInstaSwap #Harlem #ArtMuseums #ElBarrio

We’re kicking off today’s #MuseumInstaSwap with #TheStudioMuseuminHarlem (@studiomuseum) with images from their current #exhibition, #RegardingtheFigure! .
.
.
This exhibition presents works from the museum’s permanent collection that explore the practice of #portraiture and #figuration as a means of celebrating personal and collective #histories, #ideas, and #identities. Spanning two centuries of diverse artistic production, this exhibition both questions and attests to the power that comes with representing the body, and often, the responsibility that comes with depicting the black body.
