We’re working on twisted crescent lunge for day 6 of #AnglesOfSummer 🌞 Spinal flexibility doesn’t end at forward and backward bends, no siree! Twists are an essential key to back mobility. You’ll want to twist in all kinds of different shapes to get all the areas of the spine. I’ve heard you’re supposed to do standing twists, then sitting twists, then lying down twists. I always give my knees a quick hug in to the center after as a counterpose 🙃

Chaturanga can look like so many different things. In my classes I urge people to take variations that work for each individual. Here’s an example of a few modifications:

💙In regular chaturanga, you’ll begin in a high plank, shoulders over wrists (you can also come onto fists or forearms to accommodate sensitivity). 💙Your body will be in one strong, straight line from the heels through the crown. You can drop the knees here to shorten the lever.
💙Lower halfway at most, you never want the shoulders to go under the elbows. To modify, lower only a few inches. Wherever you are, huh your elbows into your rib cage.
💙Sweep through to up dog, or lower all the way and take low cobra. .

One thing to remember is that you never want to compromise the shape to get into a “more advanced” variation. Check yo ego at the door 🙏🏼💙

This is our third pose that calls for a scissoring of the thighs together. It’s the exact same action you’ll want to take in the legs to get stability in your 8 Angle posture. .
.
This hugging in of the legs to your centerline helps you get control of your core. You’ll want to engage all the leg and foot muscles to get this activation.
.

As for the upper body, I took an extra core strengthening variation with my arms overhead. If you’ve never tried it, give it a shot! It’s pretty intense, but will enhance your ability to hold yourself up with your arms over time 💪🏼 .

For the longest time, I wasn’t absolutely sure how to really get into this posture. It wasn’t until I actually took a shit ton of different styles of yoga, and they all pretty much teach it the same way. Here’s a few KEY components to extended side angle:
🌟The bent knee’s foot it at 12 o’clock, knee dorectly over the ankle, knee tracks over middle toe
🌟The straight leg’s foot is at a 45 degree angle, rooting through the knife edge side of the foot, inner arch lifts
🌟Bent knee leg’s hip crease deeps as you draw the straight leg’s hip forward
🌟From this working towards square in the hips, spin your chest open so one shoulder stacks over the other
🌟 Take your hand to the floor on the pinky toe side of your foot or use your elbow on your knee

Warrior 2, or Virabhadrasana 2, is a foundational pose in yoga. We use it to begin to fire up the legs, open the hips and front of the chest, and to find length in the spine. The front foot is pointed straight ahead to 12 o’clock, knee tracks over the middle toe. Take your back foot almost parallel to the back of the mat. From there, it’s just a lil tuck of the tailbone and then really HUG your shoulder blades onto your spine as you extend through the fingers. Lift through the crown to complete the shape.

For Day 1 we have low lunge. You def don’t have to go this deep to reap the benefits, though. This pose is a great quad and hip flexor opener and is a wonderful warm up to begin our journey 👣

News flash: it doesn’t. By identifying what it is that is irking you, you’re taking the power away from it. By shining light on it, you can see. You don’t have to let it eat you away inside. You can choose to release your grip on it. You can choose to let it float away, like in the basket of a hot air balloon 🎈 .

It’s all about going inward. Swipe to see my full wheel from 6 months ago. I spent a lot of time working on hip and shoulder openers during this time, and even more time working on my emotional heart space. Here are my recommended steps to take your heart opening to the next level:
💚Work on hip flexor opening with low lunges, dancer pose and splits (doesn’t mater if you can get all the way in, just practice!)
💚Practice shoulder opening with puppy pose, wheel pose and anything where you flip your grip (a strap is a really good prop to use here!)
💚Play with upper spine flexibility in bow pose and camel pose (think of LIFTING through the heart space instead of crunching through the low back)
💚The most important part for me was opening my heart chakra to feel comfort in this deep opening. Spend time meditating on your heart and it’s vibrations. In the shapes just feel the physical sensations and keep breathing. It seems simple, but the more you can just rest in the moment and temper your breath the easier it will be for you to get into and stay in these deep bends. It’s ESSENTIAL to practice sitting with discomfort, and that should be in your physical practice, meditation practice and your daily life!

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve introduced myself on here. I’ve seen some other yogis reintroduce themselves recently, so I figured I’d get in on it, too 🙃

First thing you should know about me is I’m a friggin weirdo, and I love it! I love to laugh and I’m very easily amused. I think laughter is the ultimate medicine and my goal is to live a life full of it. One reason I adore my love @sensi_squad so much is that he makes me laugh all day, every day 💏

I’m 30 years old and live in Seattle, Washington. I have two jobs. First (and fave) is teaching yoga, vinyasa (power and slow flow), Traditional Hot, kids, and sometimes yin/restorative. I also work at a recreational pot shop. .
.
I moved to Seattle 5 years ago and began my daily yoga practice. It helped me begin to manage my chronic depression, anxiety and even my chronic daily back pain. I was disabled for a few years because my conditions got so bad that I could barely do anything in public. I was miserable. .
.
When yoga came into my life, I knew everything was going to change. I began meditating daily and cleaned up my eating. I’m plant based now, mainly because dairy makes my stomach feel like 💩 .
.
I feel like I’m an entirely different person that I was in my early 20’s and it’s all because of yoga. I started with a home practice and learned things on Instagram. I’m wanting to share more of my yoga knowledge and tips on my account, so stay tuned for that 😉

I also feel it’s important to mention that I have a kitty, Merlin. He’s on my stories all the time because I just can’t get enough of his sweet self!

I’m also a Virgo, on the Libra cusp, and it fits me to a T. I’m mostly a perfectionist, but kind of all over the place, too. I tend to live in my higher chakras and have to practice a lot of grounding to balance ⚖️
