Eve Kritler  One day, I'll live by the ocean, and all of this will make a bit more sense.

Wearing some of my all-time @madewell favorites, and getting ready for tomorrow with the help of this little kitten. 🌙✨

A whole little family of cacti. 🌵

A little look into what happens before the painting begins. Never underestimate the power of tracing paper and a good kneaded eraser. 👌🏻

Over the last couple of weeks, I've gotten a lot of messages about my process, and I think this little timelapse sums it up nicely. On some days, I stick to this routine, while on others I dive straight into the painting. There's value to both of these methods. One allows you to train your mind to plan out a composition in advance, utilizing other methods of mark making to do so, while the other allows you to accept chance and learn to work on your toes.

In my opinion, there is no 'right' way to do this, as your approach to starting your painting will be as unique as the paintings you create. This is simply one way to go about that. My hope for you all is that this helps to give you some new tips and tricks, but that ultimately you're encouraged to forge your own path in the methods of your process!

As always, feel free to ask questions in the comments below. I'm glad to try and answer them as best I can! 💪🏻

Mark your calendars!

This coming Sunday, September 24th from 2-4pm, I'll be at @madewell in Bridgeport Village for an in-store pop-up shop. Come by and say hello while you shop special promotions and share some sweet treats! I'll be there with paintings and prints for sale and would love to see some of you Portlanders there!

First day of September in Portland that really feels like fall is setting in. I'm already missing the summer warmth as I sit on the bus packed full of people, with the driver blasting the AC because he apparently isn't ready for fall either.

For now though, I'm holding onto summer with another photo the magical @corinnecarver took of me with my butterfly.

I carry the thought of you,
so gently in my two hands..

A few weeks ago, my dear @corinnecarver and I walked into an open field carrying vessels of our creativity, and holding in our hearts a great hope in their potential. In this time, we believe we stepped into something magical, an experience where our individual crafts came to life, but only through the craft of the other.

So for the next few days, I'll be sharing a few of the images Corinne took of me and my butterfly. In turn, Corinne crafted a collection of words and images on her blog, and a link can be found in her bio. It's a new concept for me, for us, to share the vulnerability of this work. But I'm excited to see where it leads. I'm excited to experience what happens when we share the vulnerable works of our hands with one another.

For those of you who have been asking, the cactus print I promised is finally here! This painting quickly became one of my favorites, and I'm excited to share it with you all. 🌵✨ Link in bio.

My friends, thank you so much for the kind welcome back! It warms my heart to see your excitement for these new works.

Here's the process video of the butterfly in my last post. Initially, I only painted half of it, but after a two month break, I went back in and gave it a full set of wings.

It's been a while.

The time I've had to paint in the last couple of months has been slim to say the least. Between adjusting to a new full-time job and living life, the times I do have to paint have become scarce and sacred.

These butterflies are something of a new journey for me, and I'm learning to find their significance as I paint them. This one in particular has proved to wake up some new creative ventures, and I'm excited to share them with you all in the days to come.

A little cactus painted live at #calligrafair2017 for @anintran.

So fun to meet and spend time with so many creative individuals in LA a couple weeks back. Now, it's back to life in Portland where the sun is shining (finally), and I'm about to start a new job. All these changes in the last few weeks seem to have drained me a bit of inspiration, but I'm hoping that this new direction will encourage me to be more productive and driven in the down time I have to work with my paints.

New prints in the Etsy shop!

Although these abstracts are different from a lot of the work I post on here, they’ve been instrumental in my journey as an artist over the last few months. These works taught me what it looks like to take memories, filled with all kinds of senses, and turn them into visual works. I am so grateful for their influence on my work.

A big thank you goes out to @pearlprinting for working with me to get these prints just right, and my @masgrimes for always knowing how to best capture a moment.
