EFA Project Space  A collaborative, cross-disciplinary arts venue producing exhibitions, artist projects, and the SHIFT Residency. Gallery hours: Wed - Sat, 12 - 6 pm.

Tania Willard’s installation « Only Available Light » questions the way the Secwepemc community has been represented in historical and anthropological research. Here, she disrupts archaeologist Harlan Ingersoll Smith’s film with selenite crystals - seeking to confront and resist the ways in which settler society consumed and exotified Indigenous cultures. See more of Willard’s work at #callresponse, on view through 5.5.18. Gallery hours: Wed-Sat, 12-6 PM

At the recent Honoring Our Sisters roundtable, Rocio Aranda-Alvarado (far right) talked about the sharing of narrative that can happen btwn objects & artists. A @fordfoundation program officer, she explained how the El Museo del Barrio's founder, Rafael Montanez Ortiz, an artist & educator, responded to the request for culturally relevant material in E & Central Harlem schools by digging into his own interest in his #Taino bkgd, collecting materials apt-by-apt in El Barrio, & opening the museum in 1969.
Jaskiran Dhillon (center) who teaches at @thenewschool, grew up in Treaty Six Cree/Metis tertitory in Saskatchewan w/a politicized parent. As her writing shows, her early indigenous teachers influence her to this day. @elbarrio @jkdhillon22 @artyrocio.
