beyond native– urban traveller coat for mini fashion
as i was pondering the theme of beyond native and urban traveller, the image of a japanese ‹haori› overcoat with trenchcoat features came to mind. ‹haori› is a loose-cut unisex coat, with the name derived from the japanese verb ‹haoru›, which means to put over or put on. traditionally it was worn over a ‹kosode›, a kimono-like robe.
added to the ‹haori› will be the trenchcoat design features of epaulettes on the shoulders, which also function to fix the furled sleeves, a back flap and a front flap. there is no typical trenchcoat collar, so in a way it is lighter, following the ‹haori› style. the coat will also have two welt pockets and a waist belt that can be looped through an extra pocket pouch. alternatively, the belt and bag can be detached and used as a shoulder pouch. in the bag you may want to carry salted and cured fermented soybeans, called ‹daitoku-ji natto› in japanese, which originated from kyoto’s daitoku-ji temple. in former times, these were carried on a journey as a lasting and healthy source of energy.
our ‹haori› garment’s material is 100% linen, pure indigo dyed, with ‹sumi› (charcoal) ink coating on the inside. it’s said that the ‹sumi› ink coating has an antivirus and minus-ion effect and emits infrared radiation.
