The Japanese Garden landscape provides the perfect opportunity for a daily dose of forest bathing and Zentangling. Incoming CSULB dorm students enjoyed doing both during a workshop as part of Beach Days on campus this week as part of their introduction to campus resources.

In the warm days of summer, the swaying branches of the willow trees are a welcome visual. The gentle motion suggests air movement and increases the sensation of the cool breeze.

A lot of what makes the Japanese Garden so special could not happen without the help of our weekly volunteers. At 1.3 acres, it takes many hands to keep it looking so stunning throughout the year. Are you a home gardener interested in being part of our landscape? Call 562.985.8420 to see how you, too, can add your own beauty to this special place!

The iris are blooming at the Japanese Garden! For the past few months, the rhizomes just under the dirt put forth leaves and now we are finally greeted with spectacularly elegant purple and white flowers. The miracle of life continues!

The Garden is a good source of inspiration to really get the creative juices flowing. One visitor was here with her painting class last semester. Along with wanting to pursue her interest in watercolor, she came back on her own time and brought some friends with her to share the experience and make some really amazing paintings. It's great we have this little gem within the city for people to use in so many different ways.

Visitors marvel at the large blue-heron that visits our pond daily. Some people mistake it for a statue as this feathered friend is so fitting in the Garden setting.

The Lion-dog statues that stand at the entrance act as guardians to the Garden. With a full time job like that, it's understandable that one might think they need refreshment. Our young visitor, Nico, offered his baby bottle... so cute!
