Thanks to everyone who has checked out @humanage - “Turning in Place”. I’m really excited to write and release more music this year, and improve at my craft.

Photo by my amazingly talented friend @stuartwieten. Check out his work and be mesmerized.

New tool. Can’t wait to dive into this.

I’m incredibly excited to share the first song from my project, Human Age (@humanage). The track is called “Turning in Place”, and is now available on iTunes and all streaming platforms. I have been looking forward to this day for awhile. Spotify link in Bio.

Huge thanks to musical wizard James McAlister, aka @900x, who mixed the track, and helped me bring it to fruition. Also to @twwalsh for the finishing touches in mastering. And finally to @aleksandar_veselic and @gagabyte_ for the beautiful artwork.

A few years ago, I had a shoulder issue that forced me to take a break from playing drums. I was depressed, but it gave me the opportunity to focus and dive into making electronic music.
.
I love vocal-centric music, but what is truly extraordinary about instrumental music is its ability to express states of mind and emotion through pure sound, in a way that words cannot. The infinite creative freedom in producing electronic music makes me grateful to be alive.
.
While working on this project, I thought a lot about the question: why music? For me, music is a direct connection to the mystery of consciousness – of being alive and aware as a human animal in this universe. Music’s ability to make us feel, imagine, and to disappear inside of it, is meditation. It wakes us up from the trance of numb familiarity and reactivity that we habitually fall into, which can lead us to take our aliveness and everything we love for granted. It can give us clarity and space – pulling us out of our compulsive thinking, and into the raw experience of the present moment. It returns us to the 30,000 ft view of our life and says, “you’re here – right now.”
.
“Turning in Place” refers to a shift in consciousness, where instead of our usual mode of looking out at the world through our mind, we turn our attention to the nature of the mind itself.

Thanks for reading and listening. I hope you like it.

My brother’s bachelor party this weekend in Tahoe.

I had a great year with @carolinee27. This was from a trip to Portland in April. I’m incredibly lucky to be with someone as kind, intelligent, and hilarious as her.

Some memories from 2017. Looking forward to new paths in 2018. (The middle left pic is a video taken by @fallonj7 , whose finger made a brief appearance).
