Repost By @belinda_vegan: What's in a glass of cow's milk? You may be expecting to hear something to the tune of calcium, vitamins A and D, protein, and some other nutrients that we think are beneficial to the body. Well, a glass of milk also contains acidic animal protein that leeches calcium from the bones, pus cells, bovine growth hormone, feces, antibiotics, and a whole lot of unnecessary fat, cholesterol and calories — all of which create a terrible imbalance in the body.

Why You Should Stop Drinking Milk Right Now.

We seem to be the only species of mammals that drink milk after infancy, and definitely the only species that drinks another species' milk. Cow's milk is not designed for human consumption. Calves are about 100 pounds at birth and almost 8 to 10 times heavier by the time they are weaned. So why is it that humans feel the need to continue drinking milk after they are weaned from breast milk? Human milk is very different in composition from cow's milk or goat's milk or any other mammal's milk.

Cow’s milk contains on average about three times the amount of protein than human milk does, which creates metabolic disturbances in humans that have detrimental bone health consequences, according to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. How is this possible when a glass of milk is touted to have 300 mg of calcium? That's supposed to be beneficial for our bones and growth, right? Shockingly, the answer is a resounding no, according to the Harvard School of Public Health. Over time, a flawed belief that humans are required to consume three glasses of milk daily to sustain bone health and strength created the milk myth. And now, the supposed "truths" about milk we were all taught to believe are being debunked by studies ranging from those published in reputable scientific journals, such as the Journal of Nutrition and The American Journal of Epidemiology. Many recent scientific studies are now showing a variety of detrimental effects that are directly linked to milk consumption.

Repost By belinda_vegan: AN ISLAND OF LOVE, IN A SEA OF SO MUCH PAIN AND SUFFERING.

It’s already common knowledge that cow’s milk is bad for you, but more and more people are beginning to realize that it’s even worse for the cows used in its production. The following are reasons why you should never drink cow’s milk again:

1. Cows produce milk for the same reason humans do―to feed their babies.

2. To keep the milk flowing, female cows are artificially inseminated every year using what farmers call RAPE RACKS.

3. Ten months later, the cow’s calf is born and a strong bond is instantly formed between mother and baby.
4. But they won’t have much time together.

5. After one to three days, babies are typically taken away from their mothers, which causes both mother cows and their calves extreme distress.

6. They will never see each other again.
7. The male calves are often sold to the veal industry.  There, they are kept in tiny crates to keep their flesh tender.

8.They will be killed after just a few miserable months of life. Yes, they slaughter babies.

9.The female calves will likely follow in their mothers’ footsteps in the dairy industry.

10.But first, they will be dehorned.
Dehorning is a procedure in which cows have their horns or horn tissue removed using saws, sharp wires, hot irons, guillotine dehorners, or caustic chemicals. Pain killers are not used.

11.Cows’ horns are full of sensitive nerves, so this is extremely painful.

12.The cows will spend the rest of their lives as milk machines, forced to produce four and a half times as much milk as they normally would for their calf.

13.When not on a factory farm, cows can live to be 20 years old.

14.But cows used for milk production are usually slaughtered for low-grade meat when they’re around 4 years old.

15.That means four years of suffering in cramped spaces, enduring repeated artificial insemination, developing udder infections, and having their calves traumatically taken from them shortly after birth.

All of this is completely unnecessary!

His umbilical chord is still attached, his coat is still slick with birth fluids, his eyes are unfocused, his legs, wobbly. He is crying pitifully for his mother. No one answers.
_
He will live his entire short life an orphan, his only experience of mother #love will be one of yearning for it, his only experience of emotional connection, one of absence.
Soon, the memory of his mother, her face, her voice, her scent, will fade, but the painful, irrepressible longing for her warmth will still be there.
_
At two to four months old, he and other orphans like himself will be corralled into trucks and hauled to slaughter.
_
As he will be dragged onto the killing floor, he will still be looking for his mother, still desperately needing her nurturing presence, especially at that dark time when he will be frightened and needing her more than ever in the midst of the terrible sights, and #sounds, and scents of death all around him and, in his despair, in his want for a shred of consolation and protection, he, like most baby calves, will try to suckle the fingers of his killers.

Repost By belinda_vegan: Crammed into 18-wheelers, pigs struggle to get air and are usually given no food or water for the entire journey (often hundreds of miles). They suffer from temperature extremes and are forced to inhale ammonia fumes and diesel exhaust.

A former pig transporter stated that pigs are “packed in so tight, their guts actually pop out their butts—a little softball of guts actually comes outAccording to a 2006 industry report, more than 1 million pigs die each year from the horrors of transport alone. Another industry report notes that, in some transport loads, as many as 10 percent of pigs are “downers,” animals who are so ill or injured that they are unable to stand and walk on their own. These sick and injured pigs will be kicked, struck with electric prods, and finally dragged off the trucks to their deaths.

The JBS Swift slaughterhouse in Louisville, Kentucky kills over 10,000 pigs every day.
_
Yesterday, the heat index was 103° and the thousands of pigs made the confined journey for dozens of hours without food, water or relief from the heat. Many did not survive the haul, and those that barely survived are treated as trash, unable to walk to their unnecessary death.
_
If this makes you uncomfortable to watch, congratulations, you have a conscience. Act accordingly.

This was sent to me by an activist in China and asked to share it so that people can see the truth about these innocent victims of Yulin......
I know there are so many people out there speaking for these dogs, advocating and helping in every way they can. That can be help on the frontline in China, raising funds, spreading the word and trying to let the world know the pain of these innocent souls.... Please use your voice and never forget these innocent souls.
