First officers can often be likened with the modern day cowboy... as soon as there’s a transmission gap on the delivery frequency they hit the trigger and demand a clearance. Without such acquired important skill we’d never make it out!

First officers can often be found in the forward galley engaging in conversation with flight attendants about important subjects like where serves the best dinner in town and what they are doing later... but if you ask the first officers themselves they’ll say the same thing about the captains. It’s probably all just a myth!
