Hello beautiful ladies and gentleman. Today I will start new series of lessons which will be a complement to the previous series. --------------------------------------------
In the previous 22 lessons, I explained to you how several factors would influence the performance of an aircraft before and during its takeoff. --------------------------------------------
🔴Starting from today, we will continue our flight after we successfully took off. The CLIMB section of aircraft’ performance series deals with the analysis of that stage of the flight from takeoff to en-route or cruising altitude🔴. --------------------------------------------
⚠️There’re primarily two ways in which we can judge the performance of an aircraft in the CLIMB⚠️.
☝️Firstly, by considering the angle or
gradient at which the aircraft climbs (2nd photo). ✌️Secondly, by looking at the rate at which the aircraft climbs (3rd photo). First, we will examine the angle or gradient of climb. -------------------------------------------- 🆙Look at 4th photo; you can observe in this photo that the aircraft is in an unaccelerated level flight. Note that the forward acting force (THRUST) balances the rearward acting force (DRAG). Therefore, the aircraft maintains a steady speed.👌 -------------------------------------------
🆙Look at the 5th photo👉However, when the aircraft attempts to climb as shown inthe photo; a component of an aircraft’s weight acts backwards along the longitudinal axis in the direction of drag🤔. This component is known as Weight Apparent Drag🙄. It can be calculated by multiplying the weight by the Sin of the angle of climb (gamma ƴ)🤦‍♂️.
-------------------------------------------- 🔥You’ll now notice that the magnitude of the rearward acting force is more than that of the forward acting force. If this situation were left unchecked; the aircraft would decelerate🔝.
