‘Scattered Trails’ is a record of an artistic encounter between 2 visual artists who came from different generations and cultural backgrounds yet connected through a visual trail which derived from a similar frequency. The resemblance is undeniable even by its creator: Gus Punia and Philippe Janssens.
Both Punia and Philippe have been living in an area and environment that far from the bustle of mainstream art ecosystem in Bali which often influenced by lifestyle trends and tourism industry. Both artists have only armed with the desire that comes from within to create art without being overburdened by any social mission nor the existence needs of an artist. They were not aware of one another before the ‘Scattered Trails’ exhibition is being realized. Yet when they see each other artworks, the two artists immediately saw an expansion in the realm of imagination which they often visit during the creative process. 'Scattered Trails' could be seen as a small attempt to retrace the origins of inspiration without using scientific approach nor with the help of psychological studies. Instead, the audiences are invited to follow the visual trails that offered by Gus Punia and Philippe Janssens as well as to explore an imaginary space that lies between the conscious and the subconscious.
