Happy May 19th... ie World Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Day!!! With millions of people suffering worldwide from the two conditions that comprise IBD (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis) it's a serious issue that isn't spoken about nearly enough. So many people are suffering in silence, or go undiagnosed for years!
I honestly believe that so many people go undiagnosed for such a long time because we fill our bodies with so much shit, and we are so disconnected from them, that we don't actually know what is healthy for us or what a happily functioning gut feels like. 😭😭😭 If you've been following me for a while you would know that the past two years have been pretty hectic for my tummy and me. I went undiagnosed for SUCH a long time and suffered from so many symptoms while doctors came back with nothing but question marks! Symptoms of IBD can include frequent diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloody stools, as well as fever, weight loss, fatigue, and night sweats. Long story short...It's not pretty.
After being diagnosed with a strain of Crohns Disease earlier this year after a colonoscopy and gastroscope, everything is look up for me! 😊🤛🏼However, I think it's so important to mention other factors that have helped me heal. Changing my schedule from hectic international tours to more slow paced Aussie shows and many rest weekends has been amazing (sleep is soooooo important for healing the gut). 😴 Changing my diet from a "regular Aussie diet" to a simple plant based diet has done wonders! 🌿 And restricting toxins like alcohol, preservative etc etc. 🤢
Listen to your body beautiful people. Address things if they don't feel right! Support people around you if you know they're going through a tough time with their gut. It's complex, it's hard to understand, and its damn crap to deal with... but there is always light at the end of the tunnel!
