Derek Hough  Created to Create : The Secret to living is giving

"Everyday, Stand Guard At The Door Of Your Mind" -Jim Rohn
Our thoughts shape our reality. Our thoughts shape our beliefs. Our thoughts decide whether we feel happy or sad, calm or anxious, content or unfulfilled. So we must exercise caution towards what we allow to enter the door of our minds because it affects our thoughts. And our thoughts are the engine that starts everything – and we do have a choice. .
Negativity in this life is a natural occurrence. In this age of the internet, social media, and the 24-hour news cycle, negativity is constantly knocking and searching for a way into our life. And it will find a way in, unless you actively work to prevent it. Naïvely believing that nothing negative will come from never monitoring what you allow to enter your mind is a recipe for disaster. For all of us, negativity is the minds default setting, but we can make a conscious effort to dwell only on those things that you hear and see that will allow you to grow mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.
Make your personal growth and self-development the top priority in your life. Don’t allow the things that could stunt your growth, suppress your imagination or stifle your dreams to make it past your ears and settle in the soil of your mind. Learn how to shut the door on people, events, or stories that seek to pull you down and drain your emotional and mental energies.
A human life is a special gift. YOUR life is a special gift. Honor yourself by protecting this gift. .
"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves."

I know there is a lot of emphasis and guidance on what we should do to succeed. But I thought I would highlight and share 4 big reasons of why we fail.
I think it's important to not only focus on the positive of what we should do to triumph, but to be honest and aware of the negative habits and characteristics that lead to failure so that we may overcome.

These next few months I'm dedicating to service and contribution. The next service project is with my
my talented mom @thegrovela next Thursday, October 12 for an evening of painting! Link in bio for tickets - can’t wait to see you there! 🎨#TheSecretToLivingIsGiving #contribution #family #love #service #fulfillment

My Lyft driver today was kind and asked me how my day was. I said, 'not too good. Feeling the world a lot today.'
'Me too,' he said. 'I don't understand why we call ourselves the greatest country in the world. We do not have common sense.'
He had a thick accent, I guessed West African, but didn't ask. I always appreciate the perspective of Americans who have lived elsewhere. They see us with a clarity that cannot be seen from within.
'It is funny because America is young, and yet thinks it doesn't have to change,' he said.
'Maybe it's our youth that cripples us,' I said. 'We had success early, became the richest, most powerful country in the world, we got very big on ourselves, and from that, worshipped the ideas that got us here... but maybe we lumped in some bad ideas.'
'Other countries know they have had a bad past, so they are maybe more humble. They change. They don't shoot each other like this,' he said.
When he dropped me off, he got out of the car and hugged me. 'We need to hug people today.'
I am grateful for that man. He pulled me up from the muck for a moment. But I am angry. I am emotional and my shiny optimism is sitting down, catching its breath. It will be back later I am sure. Some dark nihilism is driving me today.
Let me be unambiguous: I think assault weapons should be illegal. I know many sane people enjoy them for recreation or something. But I think it is morally suspect to enjoy playing with a weapon like that, to get a playful thrill from a machine designed to kill humans. To feel that power in your hands and enjoy it. There are some things that are fun that we should not be allowed to do.
Today I feel the hurt. Of course love wins. Of course the moral arc of the universe is long and it bends toward justice. Of course there is so much more kindness than hurt. But I am mad. This I remember: the emotion of outrage has one key ingredient: hope. A doomed person does not get angry. He resigns to his fate. A person that believes in his redemption, his rights, his future... gets mad. He fights.

Here are some places to donate your much needed blood during this horrific tragedy.
