The #SouthBoulderCreek Diversion Dam is 80 years old and need a tune up! Check out the work that is being done to keep it running smoothly for another 80 years to come!

#throwbackthursday to 1896 at the Cheesman Dam project. Because of the frigid temperatures, workers had to burn the rock-hard ground to thaw it before digging to build the foundation for the construction headquarters cabin.
Cheesman Dam was completed in 1905 and purchased by Denver Water in 1918, the year Denver Water was born. #100yearanniversary #denverwater

We’re dreaming of a white Christmas, with lots of snow for all our reservoirs. May your pipes be leak-free and tight. And may all your toilets run right!

This year, @coloradodot crews scooped 320 tons of traction sand out of Denver Water’s settling pond near Winter Park. Traction sand keeps the roads safe in the winter, and this ongoing effort helps keep that sediment out of pipes and filters at our downstream water treatment facilities. Removing traction sand also helps the aquatic habitat in the #FraserRiver.

Main breaks might be inconvenient, but it turns out they’re also a great way to keep your kids entertained! Thanks to @CBS4’s @ashton.altieri, who shared this adorable photo of his son Ayden spending Sunday afternoon watching our crews work their magic.

11-year-old Gitanjali Rao from #LoneTree won the @DiscoveryEd @3M #YoungScientistChallenge and is America’s Top Young Scientist! She won with her device called Tethys, which tests for lead in water. Today, she visited Marston Treatment Plant, explored our water quality lab and presented her invention to Denver Water’s experts. She is one remarkable seventh-grader!

Noses aren’t the only thing that get plugged up when winter comes! This week, our expert crews placed a 6-ton steel plug in the Morning Glory spillway at #DillonReservoir. The plug prevents cold air damage and falling ice buildup. We’ll remove the plug in early spring to get ready for summer maintenance season.

Time to play “Name That Reservoir!” At 144 years old, this reservoir in Littleton is older than the state of Colorado — and it’s still going strong! While Denver Water owns the reservoir, dam and land within the park, Foothills Park & Recreation District manages all recreation. Now... NAME THAT RESERVOIR!

#flashbackfriday from the 1930’s to 2017! The South Boulder Creek Diversion Dam is getting a $1.9 million makeover to continue it’s work bringing water to the Front Range. Click the link in our bio for more information.

#TBT to last week and the 2017 #solardecathlon in Denver. Congrats to the Swiss team, who won first place overall, as well as in the inaugural water contest. Their aquaponic garden involves raising fish and growing vegetables in one integrated system. They also featured a waterless, “vermicomposting” toilet. What does that mean? Basically, worms consume human bio-waste and generate compost to be used in the garden. Who’s ready for a future of worm toilets?!
