so many people talk about doing yoga teacher training to "deepen their practice" - but honestly in order to teach, you need to know your stuff first. so you should already have a "deep practice". learning about how to teach yoga just makes me realize what a privilege it is to hold the space for others and guide them through their practice, & how privileged I am to have found good teachers to move me to greater heights (and depths). β€’ so many people ask what you need in order to start yoga and I always say nothing. but honestly what you need is time. time to go to class, time outside of class to practice so you're more prepared for class, time to sleep so your body can recover... β€’ at the start of this year my practice plateaued. or rather, after 6 months of plateau I finally acknowledged it. YTT was just supposed to change it up - which it has. But somehow all this body awareness just makes me wanna push myself more. β€’ ideally I would do yoga + Netflix, guided by Alexa (just cue the poses at appropriate junctures), long deep stretches. But technology hasn't evolved to that stage (yet) and my Netflix addiction isn't that bad either. β€’ long story short, need to stretch more. πŸ˜‚ as I realized when doing this simple forward fold for day 7 of #hamspringlove β€’ hosted by @stretchylicious @mayyoga14 @kominamijunko & sponsored by @ombombjapan @bevibewear @liforme @pranamat

dear shoulders, please open? β€’ self practice is so important to me, & today I realized that I intuitively know what to stretch to come into an "advanced" pose, even if I can't name most of the muscles you need to stretch / strengthen. it feels like English 101 all over again. I can spot all the grammatical errors out there but can't tell you why they are wrong. I've always just lived my life on intuition but maybe sometimes having theoretical knowledge (or at least a foundation) would be good πŸ˜‚ β€’ but anyway, #forearmwheel is something I've been working on for two years ... my goal for my yogaversary last year was to touch toes to fingers... doubt I'll make that goal this year πŸ˜” maybe next year...
