Sometimes people hide their struggles, and you have no idea they exist until they come out all at once. But other times, the struggles show on the surface. Nobody wears hijab perfectly, and sometimes women struggle to keep it on. There, I said it. We live in a world where hijab is not fully accepted, and we live in a society where looks are everything. When a woman or a girl strives to wear it correctly, it's admirable and beautiful because only God knows the effort and commitment she put into pleasing Him. But that's not always the case for everyone. There could be so many reasons as to why someone wears the hijab the way they do, and it doesn't help when people publicly shame them. Rather than making matters worse, think about the challenges they might go through. They might be struggling with their conscience or dealing with the inability to be accepted by others. It isn't always easy, but the approach that we take doesn't always help. When someone is struggling both internally and externally, they need support. They need you to be empathetic and mindful, letting them know you can turn to them for strength. There has to be a stronger sisterhood, and brothers need to be more supportive. Rather than telling someone to take it off, let them know that you're there to help them every step of the way. Just like your faith is not perfected over night, wearing the hijab takes effort. When you put a person down for wearing it wrong, you too are going to be questioned for your actions. Why would it be better for you if they took it off? What if your kindness and support over the years was the reason they decided to wake up one morning and strive to wear it better? Be mindful of people's struggles. Remember, you are also meant to be a mercy to others.
