I often find that the most memorable trips can measured by the range of experiences. I've had plenty of trips where everything goes according to plan, and I'm truly grateful when the events taking place align with my goals. Although, some of my fondest memories are the times in my life are when I'm dealt a healthy dose of "shit happens". During this adventure to Hawaii we lived in a treehouse, saw many beautiful waterfalls, peered into tropical canyons, witnessed the intensity of an active volcano, and gazed into a night sky filled with countless stars. Truly a trip to remember, yes, but what really made our journey unforgettable was when we almost missed our flight because airport security thought my camera gear was suspicious, when we arrived in Hilo and our backpacking gear never showed up...they lost it!!! When we drove over a giant nail and had to get a new rental car, when I was running with my camera and hit my head on a tree branch...trying to get a smooth shot sometimes gives me tunnel vision 🙈, when they found our packs..the day before we left, and then of course a few hours before our flight home I bit into a fish taco only to pass out with a concussion moments later. I'm still not sure if my taste buds were overwhelmed by the worlds greatest fish taco or if hitting my head on a tree branch had a delayed effect. I guess I'll never get to finish that taco now that I'm vegan 😜. The point of this lengthy post is that when shit happens new paths open up for your journey, and it's up to you to decide how you're going to react. It's only because we lost our camping gear that we found ourselves in treehouse! We laughed then and we laugh now because the joy is in the journey, and it helps when you have a good company.
