“Recognize impermanence and suffering and egolessness at the kitchen sink level, and be inquisitive about your reactions. “Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.” —Pema Chödrön ✨ Upon hearing Pema’s teachings I sometimes experience initial resistance or denial. What does she mean things don’t get solved? They better get solved! We can’t just sit here and let everything go to shit!??? Maybe though, the message is one of freedom and aliveness. What if we don’t have to put our lives on hold and wait until we “arrive” at some future version of ourselves - waiting to graduate, waiting to get the job, waiting to fall in love, waiting to buy that idyllic house.... waiting and waiting for things to get solved. I think Pema is saying NO!! Wake up!! You have arrived right now, right here, in this breath. In this miracle of a human body you have arrived. Maybe it’s time to stop waiting, and feel every cell in your body bristling with life right now, arriving each moment to the mystery and magic of life just as it is. 📷 by @swngproductions

“Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth” —Pema Chödrön ✨ Following truth requires a lot of courage. But being brave isn’t fearlessness. It’s being afraid, getting intimate with your fear, and still moving forward. TODAY 6pm Flow & 7:30 pm Glow @sukhayogaaustin 📷 by @swngproductions

This poem might be a little long for an IG post, but every time I read it, more of its truth shines through. ✨ “One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began, though the voices around you
kept shouting their bad advice -- though the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles.
"Mend my life!" each voice cried. But you didn't stop. You knew what you had to do, though the wind pried with its stiff fingers at the very foundations, though their melancholy was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voice behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds, and there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own, that kept you company as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world, determined to do
the only thing you could do -- determined to save
the only life that you could save.” —Mary Oliver TODAY @sukhayogaaustin 🧘‍♀️ FLOW at 12 noon & GLOW at 7:30 pm. 📷 by @swngproductions

This is what November in Austin looks like!! 🌞🌱🤸‍♀️

Besides being fun to say, the Sanskrit word Svādhyāya, meaning “self study”, is one of the five Niyamas, and it is a powerful lens through we can can approach our practice with less judgement and more love. Svādhyāya can also be translated as “one’s own reading”. I love this translation because we often hear people say “if only we came with an owners manual”. Perhaps we just need to learn how to read it! By approaching our practice as a self-experiment, or self-study, we are invited to let go of yoga as performance art, laden with expectations, and embrace curiosity and wonderment as we begin to read the grand adventure that is written in our own hearts. Svādhyāya simply asks that we be willing to show up for our practice, be open to the experience as it is, and to suspend judgment. I’m inviting you all to join me on the mat this week. Svādhyāya? Ya! 🙏🏼❤️🔥🎶 📷 by @swngproductions
