High resistance intervals or "HRI" is a great method to push your body to the limit. Maximal effort followed by short rest intervals, give you and your client a fun/intense way to improve fast twitch fiber aerobic abilities. I like HRI as a good change of pace to traditional conditioning methods. Fact of the matter is, "conditioning" is multifaceted and challenging to do well. For the general population, it may matter less but for high level athletics understanding these nuances make a difference on the field and in the gym. This HRI is not only concerned about speed to increase HR but also resistance to recruit high threshold fast twitch fibers. Integration of upper body (smaller muscle groups) will also boost overall HR during these short bouts of activity. Speed and plyometrics: Returning an athlete back to a sport that requires frequent and rapid changes in direction, requires clearance standards that challenges​ the athlete in an equal and equivalent manner. Cutting and speed drills places unique stressors on the hip that cannot be replicated. The patient or client must first attain triplanner stability through the hip and trunk to be able to tolerate these loads. Ground contact times (GCT)  is the amount of time an athlete spends on the ground between jumps, in this example it is measured as the average time between 4 jumps. This athlete is an elite dancer with the 2016 and 2017 national champions @holyangelsdancenj. @KrystinaVafiadis is post op and needs to be able to tolerate explosive movements in a variety of positions. These exercises are beneficial to improve GCT and restore her back to her full potential. Challenging multi-planer movement is the essence of shoulder stability. Compression and distraction of the joint are appropriate stimuli to reinforce joint centration and scapular proprioception. In these two exercises we move from the one plane through another while both maintaining scapular and rib positioning. The Kettle bell windmill (Left) can be used as a regression to a Turkish Get Up and the TRX reverse Arm Bar and be used a variant to a supine KB Arm Bar.
