We lost our first baby a few weeks ago. It’s still pretty raw, but we’re both slowly healing. Father’s Day has made me realise there must be other dads who have been through what I have - losing their kiddo before they’ve even had the chance to meet. The feelings of helplessness when you realise there is literally nothing you can do. The frustration that despite doing everything as well as you possibly can, such a horrific hard stop to your hopes exists. Fumbling trying to figure out how to support your partner helpfully and healthily.
If you’re a dad struggling this Father’s Day, or any other day, with losing your baby, my heart reaches out to you. If you want to talk, please please please tell me. I want to be there to support others through similar experiences, because it can be horrifyingly lonely. Miscarriage happens surprisingly often, and I’d hate for any friend to go through what we’ve been through, and feel like they have no one to talk to.
Anyway, here’s to hope, and to the future 🕊
