People say I get my adventurous spirit and creativity from my mother, but I hope I get more than that from her. I always thought she was a creative rule-breaker. She's never fit in the boxes people created for her and it is something Ive always admired. When she refused to fit in society's constraints she allowed me to do the same. Growing up in the the south, there were a whole lot of opinions on women in the church and what their roles should be.. and most importantly how they should behave. When people tried to exclude others who were different, she went out of her way to include them and make them feel loved. When some tried to disqualify others, she would lift them up and give them responsibility. When people avoided those with disabilities , she held them close, became their friends and knew their names. When others gave up on people, she took them under her wing and taught them. That's my Mother.. so when people look at me and ask where I got this or that ... I hope I can say , I get it from my Mama.. because that woman... she's one of a kind.
