CONSENT, FEEDBACK, ASSIST, RELAX
Ok not looking to start the whole adjustment debate, I would like to share my approach. Rather than manipulate or adjust, meaning I am in control of the movement, I prefer to provide assistance or feedback and in some cases simply touch that provides an aspect of relaxation. There are a few key elements to my process. .
1- CONSENT: I love, love, love consent cards. They are my JAM. Some days you’re feeling it, some you aren’t. Some aren’t into it at all. Whatever the reason it’s your choice.
2- DEMO, VERBAL, FEEDBACK- if I notice making shift in your alignment may improve your experience of your posture or provide a new perspective I’ll move through the process above. First I’ll show you though demo, then verbally cue if it’s not landing, and finally provide feedback. I am providing feedback to my friend @avibrantmind in the photo. She is pushing her foot back into my hand.
3- ASSIST- This is the approach that I use to gently provide direction, with minimal touch, you move your body, I just assist you in finding the way.
4- RELAX- these assists take place in a situation where I am aware that someone is comfortable with touch and still requires in the moment communication. Even if I know someone everyday is different so it’s important to be sure every time. Let them know you are there and move slowly when applying pressure. .
Tonight I’ll be teaching rocket at 5:30PM @yogalifestudios south. If you’re down for some assists I can provide. If you wanna practice in your bubble too I have a safe space for you. See you in the mat.
