It's been a crazy week for us. On Monday, Dec 8, we not only closed on our beautiful new home, but we also got engaged! Peter told me he was working all day and that I would have to get the keys for us when our builder / lawyer called to say we were good to go. The call never came, but Peter told me he got the call around 5:30 and that we were finally closed. Little did I know he hadn't gone to work and had gotten the keys hours earlier and set up an awesomely beautiful surprise in our new home. When he picked me up to "grab the keys" he actually showed up in his uniform and we went to the presentation centre to pick up our welcome packages. When we got to the house, I noticed Christmas lights. I legit thought the builder had decorated our foyer for us for our closing. The lights, it turns out, were Christmas lights, hung from the ceiling with pictures of us through the years. As you know - we've been together for almost 11 and a half years so there were lots of pics of us through the last decade! He also looped @taylorswift's "You're In Love" so that it played the beginning instrumental over and over. The lights led to the kitchen / family room where there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers. "I didn't really plan out anything to say," he said, as we reached the end of the hall and my eyes were blurry with tears. "Will you marry me?" Well, duh! Took ya long enough!
Just wanted to give a huge thanks to our family and friends who have worked so hard over the last few weeks to help with both the proposal AND in moving in and setting up our house! I am humbled and honoured that you all care and love us so much that you would give up your free time to help us settle in. Moving, painting, cleaning, assembling appliances, *disassembling* appliances, tearing down doors, bringing us food, or just being there to congratulate and welcome us home - from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and love you.
