Athabasca & Sunwapta falls: an undeniable power couple. Their turquoise current winding through limestone canyons, carving an intricate gorge below where even more waterfalls flow, down the river. I’d hike that.

That afternoon we heard the road to Moraine Lake was closing for the season, so we booked it up there. @kibahead and I sat and watched a storm roll over the valley's ten peaks until the tourists left, the cold set in, and the cloudy sky turned starry.

Permit in hand for the last hiking time slot of the season we headed up the winding road to the trailhead leading to Mount Edith Cavell. As we packed our gear to hit the trail thick storm clouds completely covered the glaciers we came to capture and giant snowflakes started to fall. Not going didn’t even cross our minds. We sent every good vibe out into the universe and began the climb to the location we scouted the day before. When we arrived we sat and waited. And hoped. And waited. Moments later we stood in awe as the clouds began to part and it was then that Mother Nature gave our silent applause an unforgettable encore.

Wait for it...
Believe it or not, this was the after party. When the wildest part of the show was over we headed back to the van to warm up. I left my camera behind just in case anything else happened, and I was pretty pleased when this timelapse was waiting for me.

The sky is falling

Who else caught the epic show a few nights back? Every time I see the Northern Lights I feel like a kid seeing snow for the first time.  It's impossibly beautiful.  The faint green glow on the horizon slowly formed an arc, and then the sky exploded.  Columns of vibrant light danced with the mountains.  Pulsing clouds of color filled the entire sky.  It was like a fireworks show with the sound turned off.  Eventually the light dimmed, the intricate dance slowed to subtle waves, and the sky faded to black.  These moments, these extraordinary moments, are everything.

Front row seats and a trail to ourselves. It's hard not to fall in love with a place like this one. 🚶🏽‍♀️: @kibahead

🎥🔈Some teaser shots from a hike on the Olympic Coast. I'll have a full edit soon, but right now I'm up in the Canadian Rockies getting my mind blown 🚐☁️

Awe.

A lot of these mornings start with an internal battle. My alarm goes off at 5AM, sometimes earlier, and I think to myself...this is stupid. It's raining. It's dark. It's SO cold. I am not a morning person. In fact I hate mornings. How could this possibly be worth it? Then, without fail, it's worth it. Each adventure, each day, is so incredibly worth it. 📷: @kibahead

Over the river and through the woods ╳ This bridge led to 22 hot springs, steamy light rays, and a sunrise for the books. 🚶🏽‍♀️: @kibahead

Do you ever stumble upon trailheads and hike them without knowing where they lead? @kibahead and I have been doing that more often lately and we're always glad we did. This trail led us up a steep rocky mountainside to a sub-alpine lake with breathtaking views every step of the way.
