Cultured Magazine  Discover the people behind contemporary culture.

Currently there are three hotels in the #ASHNYC repertoire: Providence’s The Dean, a landmarked one-time strip club and brothel, The Siren Hotel, a Renaissance Revival building in downtown Detroit and the recently opened Hotel Peter & Paul in a former church and rectory in the Marigny district of New Orleans. Baltimore will be next, and then who knows. Tap the link in our bio for @chloemalle's recent interview with the design firm.

#CULTUREDpicks | Today is the final day of '#JonathanGardner: Desert Wind' at #CaseyKaplanGallery. This presentation features fantastical, layered tableaus and is the artist's second exhibition with the gallery.

"The Bangers are a linear extension of the Facepots that I began in 2012 and finished in 2017.While the Seven Bangers serve less as vessels in a physical and symbolic sense they double down as proposals for vessels in an emotional sense."—#DanMcCarthy on his new sculptures, now on view at #AntonKernGallery. #7Bangers

Presenting: The Young Collectors. Art collections are as varied as the individuals that curate them. For our second annual selection of young collectors, we focus on a diverse group that shares a common thread, the nurturing of conversations that tie art to the larger context of the world. Visit the link in our bio to meet the collectors defining 2019 for us.

#GinaBeavers, 'Mona Lisa Nail,' 2015. Beavers, a New York–based artist, transforms digital images appropriated from social media and the Internet into layered compositions that blur the lines between painting and sculpture. Her exhibition 'The Life I Deserve' is now on view at MoMA PS1. #CULTUREDpicks

#CULTUREDpicks | 'Flora + Fauna,' at @sadiecoleshq, featuring #JohnCurrin's 2003 'Rose Bush,' detail seen here.

#SimoneLeigh is the first black artist to win the #HugoBossPrize and is only the second black female artist to be shortlisted behind #LornaSimpson. The achievement capped off a decade of successes for Leigh, whose rise is as much a story of an artist who has elevated the medium of sculpture as it is of someone who has acknowledged and uplifted the black female experience in contemporary art. At the link in our bio, we connect with the artist ahead of her #Guggenheim exhibition, 'Loophole of Retreat,' which opens tomorrow.

Editor-in-chief @sarahgharrelson caught up with @icamiami's @alexgartenfeld on the eve of the opening of “Ettore Sottsass and the Social Factory” to get a sneak peek of the iconic designer’s survey. For #BTS, head to our Stories.

BLESS’s design universe is as deep as it is durational, and is surrounded by an impenetrable elusiveness that feels increasingly rare in today’s pumped-up, hyper-visual fashion economy. A fashion line, an art practice, a design laboratory, a furniture brand and a concept store with an in-house hairdresser: BLESS is all this and more. Tap the link in our bio for: 'A Short History of Bless the Neo-Dada Fashion Line,' by @jeppeugelvig.

Practicing in the #ArtePovera tradition, #GabrielRico juxtaposes found materials, neon, and taxidermy animals in ways that communicate the relationship between humans and the natural environment. Through June 16, the #AspenArtMuseum presents 'Gabriel Rico: The Discipline of the Cave.' #CULTUREDpicks

Last week, during the first-ever #SemanadeArte in Buenos Aires, @faenaart brought ‘This is Not America,' an exhibition of large-scale and performance pieces, to the city. The festival "was a response to a moment in time that I felt the need to address and a way to recognize how artists were addressing who we are, how we want to identify ourselves, who we want to become and what we hope for the future,” says curator @zoelukov. Visit our Stories today for scenes from the exhibition. Pictured: #IsabelLewis, 'Poolside Pastoral,' 2019.

Tonight, #YoungArts returns to #TheMet's Temple of Dendur to celebrate its annual Gala, featuring alumni performances directed by #MichaelMcElroy. For a peek into this illustrious evening, be sure to follow our Stories this evening. #becauseofyoungarts
