Competing at the Commonwealth Championships in Brisbane yesterday was one of our finest - John Cheah with 120kg snatch and 145kg clean and jerk in the U85kg weight category.
We are so proud of you, John ❤️ #Repost @cheahjohn (@get_repost)
Went 2/6 in what would count as probably one of my worst competition performances since I started lifting 4 years ago.
This comp follows a 4kg weight cut; I weighed in at 84.29kg this afternoon after training at 88/89kg, my first ever weight cut for a comp. I had doubts of going past 115kg and 135kg in the snatch and clean and jerk respectively; I failed a 110kg and a 130kg clean and jerk in the training hall three days prior.
But holes allow God's glory to shine through.
I opened with a 120kg snatch and 145kg clean and jerk (and failed everything else 😅) for a 265kg total, my previous competition third attempts in the U94kg category. These were hit very confidently, good enough to rewrite all three records in the Singapore U85kg category; the 142kg clean and jerk and 254kg total record I set in 2015 and the 115kg snatch record, held for the past 10 years.
For all the kind people who've left comments, tagged me on instastories, texted me directly or called me on FaceTime (just you @adelestanley don't worry) from literally ALL OVER THE WORLD, thank you, thank you, thank you for your support. Weightlifting is a lonely sport and you are all the reasons that keep me going.
But take a look past what I've achieved today and see how God is and has been working in my life. This year has been a rollercoaster that has not ended, with many highs and lows. But He has held my hands and heart through every decision and event that threatens to tear what I know apart; to God be the glory, the best is yet to be.
