#tbt “The Tongue Bomb” - I am blessed to be friends with many members of the Women’s Pro Peloton. Northern California’s Katie Hall is one of them. As one of the primary photographers covering Northern California racing, I have acquired a rather unusual collection of images over the years featuring the tongue bomb. A special move by a racer to acknowledge a photographer as they speed by. The proverbial wink and a nod, if you will. I normally never see it in realtime when I’m shooting a high speed burst. But when I download and process my shots, there it is. They always make me smile.
This previously un-released shot is a favorite from 2018. As other media photographers were shooting events in front of the stage, I waited for Katie and her teammates. The joy and pride of a champion was written all over her face as she approached. Then it happened: The Tongue Bomb. My wink and a nod. This one I saw coming. I was able to enjoy it realtime. I smile every time I see this shot. So the time has come to share it with the world. Congratulations Katie Hall! Congratulations to her UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling teammates: Leah Thomas, Loretta Hanson, Lauren Hall, Diana Carolina Penuela and Elizabeth Banks. It was an honor to have a front row seat and document this wonderful win. - Overall race winner, Katie Hall (USA) and her UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling teammates return to the finish line following the Amgen Tour of California Women's Race empowered with SRAM - Stage 3 in Sacramento, California, USA on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
