The sports nutrition community is deeply saddened by the news that Monika Woolsey passed away earlier this week. A Sports Dietitian for over 30 years, Monika was a giant in the profession whose impact cannot begin to be measured. She was a true pioneer in the field of sports dietetics. She received her bachelor’s degree in nutrition from Cornell University, and her master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado, Boulder.⠀
Monika spent years working with the Milwaukee Brewers organization and was passionate about helping women facing the challenges of eating disorders and PCOS. Monika founded Hip Veggies -a collaboration of artists and food professionals that promotes locally-grown produce, supports local artists and raises awareness and support for local hunger relief organizations. ⠀
Monika had an unbridled passion in everything she did, from embracing local foods and learning the language and native culinary customs of the players and patients she worked with, to teaching others to foster healthy relationships with food. Our thoughts are with her family and all the many people she touched over the years.
