We developed our serama collection back in 2016 and have been keeping them in hiding. We spent more time pushing prints by the batik smallholders we're working with. And ... recently, we added another batik stamp to the collection. 😅
We probably need to release the collection soon.
Why ayam serama? For a start, ayam serama is a native Malaysian fowl. As we travelled out to the more rural parts of Terengganu, we noticed some kampung folks proudly kept serama roosters as pets. That intrigued us.
Maryam also inherited some of her maternal grandmother's songket which carries rooster motifs. Dr Norwani Nawawi of UiTM shared that in the olden days, rooster as an ornament on a fabric would signify strength, courage and patience.
We hope to be releasing EXCLUSIVE PRINTS before the year ends. Finally, the courage to do so. When exactly you ask? Well, you've got to watch this space!
Now, what colours should we experiment with? 🤔
