It’s one thing to look at photos and read a caption on your phone but it takes a few more steps to make a difference. I encourage you to get involved in your local community. Volunteer your time and energy to give back to those in need. During my time spent with the SF-Marin Food Bank and Feeding America I learned a great deal about who goes hungry in San Francisco and Marin. Hunger exists in nearly every neighborhood in San Francisco. Children, seniors, unemployed and low-wage workers make up the majority of those struggling with hunger. Only 14% of those receiving food through the Food Bank network are homeless.
Every week 30,000 families receive fresh groceries from food pantries.
Every month 28,000 seniors receive food through the food bank.
Every year 225,000 people rely on the help of the SF-Marin Foodbank, 44,000 of them are children.
