To say I'm proud is an understatement. I'm also massively inspired by this bunch. This is magnified all the more as both my Mom & Dad have decided that strength and conditioning in our @activatefitness.ie #ActivateMasters programme is a great choice for them. I'm so so happy to see them workout under the knowledgeable, warm, and caring approach that @treharnephysio brings.

Mondays. Never miss them.
Confession: the past two Mondays I've missed training.
I've been putting work first almost everyday, and haven't slept or hydrated and recovered as well as I should. As a result I've been picking up niggles and pains that I never before had to deal with! Today the focus was to just get under a light bar and move a little. And of course to sing away to myself as I always do! πŸ˜‚πŸ€·πŸ€¦
Moral of the story, it's not just about working out or training. If you aren't paying attention to rest and recovery you can be heading for injury.(oh and sing while lifting too!)

Wednesday mornings mean one thing here at Activate. Programming time.... it's actually one of my favourite roles and I put aside two hours each week to build out the next group mesocycle based off of current trends. (One on one client's programme's each take their own time slot each week.) Your health and fitness deserves thorough thought, analysis and professionalism. Not random sweat fests which will ultimately lead to injury and excessive fatigue.
More isn't better,better is better.

I love sports. Give me any game and I can see enjoyment in it. More important I find is the reflection of real life that sport can give. Life will throw adversity at you,life will test you. Sport can teach us lots about who we are and who we want to become.

I classify opponents in sport into three distinct categories.
Opponent 1; they might have strengths you don't, and vice versa. A good honest tussle will ensue and you hope your preparation betters theirs and you come out on top. Some battles you win,some you don't.

Opponent 2; who tries to live with you but can't. An honest effort is put in,but ultimately you win. You shake hands afterwards and keep your head down and work so that you always keep that edge over them knowing that they'll be doing the same working on their weaknesses.

Opponent 3; just can't live with you. But instead of trying to compete honestly,will start to play dirty and try to take the game onto their level. I always loved playing these ones! πŸ˜‚You knew after that first ball when they make no attempt to take you on at the game that they have nothing,and never will. They aren't willing to put in the work,they will just keep trying the cheap shots. But ultimately you have too much for them,too much class,too much work put in and have every base covered.

One day I hope to introduce my kids to sport and I'll tell them that it doesn't matter the result. What matters is that they aren't like opponent 3. Because once that person leaves the field of play,they are still that person deep down. At least opponent 1&2 can leave the field with their head held high.

Played my first game of rugby in around five years last night and the rustiness was real! πŸ§“ ☠️

Feeling it this morning so grabbed my bike and headed down to the national park for a spin to loosen the body and get some fresh air. Big things in the pipeline both professionally and personally so taking time to think is πŸ—. We are truly blessed to live in such an amazing place here in the heart of the Kingdom under the mountains.

Last year I set myself a challenge to do a marathon on the @concept2inc row Erg.
It never happened.
As with many other things in life recently, I put work first and never carved out the time needed to train for that event.
Last month @thedavecastro programmed a marathon row @crossfitgames and the novelty has worn off for me(it's still on my list). But now I'm putting my personal challenge public so I can't back out like last year!
I'm going to complete a marathon of a different kind before the end of 2018. What kind of marathon? I'll leave that up to my 5 or 6 followers! πŸ˜‚

I'll even try raise some funds for charity with it! πŸ‘πŸ˜Š Voting will be on my stories soon!

Programming should be written in pencil, not pen.
Been reading that around the interweb alot lately. And couldn't agree more.

However I honestly look at some of the stuff put on whiteboards and wonder was it written in @crayola first!? πŸ˜‚

There is a marriage of art and science in coaching and programming and when coaches get too sciencey or too arty we see high injury rates, poor adaptations and high levels of fatigue.
Figuring out some workouts for next month at the moment and there are some beauts in here! πŸ‘ πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚
