Whenever I travel for meets, if time allows, I try to find a gym or coach that knows more than me to train at or with. Even though I'm no longer training to compete, being in these atmospheres allows me to grow as a coach and just soak in a new environment. •

While down in #Miami to coach @kingbutterllc, we took this morning to stop in at @ferrinosportsfitnessclub to train and chat with @coachhoracio & @rreisfernando. Awesome gym, amazing hospitality, and fantastic atmosphere. Thank you for opening your doors and I look forward to training with you all again soon! •

1️⃣- Love for the athlete comes before love of the game. Kids aren't dumb, they know when you're being fake. Show & PROVE to the young athlete that you genuinely and unconditionally care about them more than the sport. Doing this helps create significant buy-in from the athlete.
.
2️⃣- FUN always wins. When an athlete is experiencing fun in their development, they will stick around longer and be better athletes with longevity. Expose them to more movement patterns and proprioceptive situations. This will develop a higher ceiling for athletic potential in terms of LTAD.
.
3️⃣- Know the love languages and know what makes them tick. Learn and understand your athletes. Kids are tough but they're also sensitive. Remember, they are still developing physically and mentally. The better you know them, the better you can motivate them, and most importantly- the more they'll enjoy the sport. .
4️⃣- Don't rush the process. It's REALLY easy to see talent, get excited, and try to make them superstars overnight. Yes, youth accomplishments are awesome, fun, and should be celebrated but they also don't REALLY matter. Train the youth athlete for the long-term, not the immediate medal.

🔝No one remembers the 2012 Youth National Champion. No one forgets the Olympic Champion. .
5️⃣- Periodization models, exercise selection, and training frequency must all be flexible and change over time to fit the needs of their biological, physiological, and training development.
.
▪️In closing, show them that you care about them, have fun, know what motivates them, focus on the long-term but celebrate the short-term, and be knowledgeable/flexible enough to grow and change as they grow and change. .

Interestingly, he's only gotten faster and stronger 🤔🤔.
