We are saddened by the loss of our friend and collaborator, composer and conductor Oliver Knussen. He made his Cleveland Orchestra debut in 1993 conducting his works “Flourish with Fireworks” and “The Way to Castle Yonder.” In 1995 we were honored to give the United States Premiere of his Horn Concerto, Opus 28 with Barry Tuckwell.
Over the years, Knussen conducted The Cleveland Orchestra over 40 times and the Orchestra performed 11 of his works including his operas Where the Wild Things Are and HIGGLETY PIGGLETY POP!, the Violin Concerto Opus 30 and “Requiem – Songs for Sue.”
