"I suppose I'll have to watch my back, then."
"No need," I tell her. "I can see it perfectly.” To Kill a Kingdom, Alexandra Christo.
As promised, i’m back with my To Kill a Kingdom #Clarireview! Before purchasing this book i heard lots of bookstagrammers saying they unfortunately didn’t feel the push to finish the book, which was a pity given the initial hype that surrounded this “Little Mermaid” dark retelling. And let me tell you, i thought the same after reading the first few chapters. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that the story wasn’t interesting ~ after all, give me any type of monster and myths and i’m hooked! ~, it’s just that something was missing. It was the beginning of a good story, but somehow it wasn’t enough to make me keep going. I decided to put it down for a couple of days and i think the main problem was to find the willpower to pick it up again. And that is where lots of bookstagrammers just gave up. I didn’t want to, so i gave it a second chance. And oh, how glad i am that i did!!! The moment Lira and Elian met, the book became something else entirely! The dynamic between the two was brilliant! Literally lighted up the story. Anything that happened around them was just background noise. The bickering back and forth between the two of them, the chemistry! Maked me wish there was a second book coming ~ and after the unexpected announcement of the Carry On sequel, a girl can hope, right?!. So overall if you wish to read something dark but very funny at the same time (and fresh! All the ocean descriptions made me long for fresh salty water 😩) definitely pick up To Kill a Kingdom! Just hang on until they meet, you won’t regret it! My Elira ship has already sailed over the horizon 😍😂
YES, THAT’S MY MERMAID BLANKET 🤩🧜🏻♀️
