“When the wolves come for that Jude, she’ll be eaten up in an instant - and wolves always come. It frightens me to think of myself so vulnerable. But as i am now, i am well on my way to becoming one of the wolves.” #feministfriday
The Cruel Prince, 3.5 ⭐️s.
For a long time, i wasn’t sure about giving this book a high rate. In the end i decided to drop it to 3 stars because, among other reasons, i didn’t feel like TCP satisfied my expectations. Really high expectations, since this one was almost on top of everyone’s highly anticipated books list of 2018. Don’t get me wrong tho. I enjoyed it even if the first chapters were really, really slow... And once the plot deepened and it seemed to gain speed, it ended. Meh, right? At least the ending was well written and left me with enough curiosity to preorder the sequel, without a doubt. Moving on from the pace, i have to say the plot was good. Liked the idea of the terrible murder right at the beginning of the book that clearly showed us the author wasn’t sugarcoating it (with the bullying situation as well, tho i have to say from all the things i heard about the bullying being almost “unbearable” to read etc, i expected WAY more. Or maybe it is just me, having read far worse). Liked the characters ~ as much as they could be likable... You see, literally everyone in this book was selfish and kind of an ambitious prick for different reasons, so i don’t know how much i can actually LIKE them, more like... I appreciated the characterization?. So, overall a good book, definitely worth reading. Personally ~ and let me underline personally ~ i didn’t like the context, meaning the Fae in our current human world and time. Way too strange for me to read about fae shopping at the mall! I’m more of a “high fantasy”, deep forests and castles kind of reader. It will be interesting to see (❗️SPOILER AHEAD) what Cardan will do after the year at Jude’s service is over. I expect a lot from him, not just sitting there drinking the day away, even if i do get at least why he ended up like that. Looking forward to The Wicked King!! #Clarireview
