It's gut-wrenching to see what's been happening to Puerto Rico. I have family and friends there, and I'm worried not just for them, but for the future of the island itself as this humanitarian crisis unfolds. * * * * * * * * I shot this photo on Vieques, one of a pair of small islands off of PR's east coast. Vieques has packs of wild horses that mostly roam the island freely, though locals occasionally grab one when they need a quick ride somewhere. (It's like a much cooler Citibike program.) Knowing this, I didn't think too much of it when I saw two young boys leading a horse by a single piece of rope down an otherwise empty beach. When they started to lead it into the water, I decided I would go ask to take their photo. But they went much further out than I expected-- deep enough that the boys could swim onto the horse's back-- and I realized that either the boys or the horse were learning their role in this odd symbiosis in front of me. With only a 50mm lens on my camera, the only way to get the shot was to wade out far enough that my feet would leave the ground when a wave swelled, and I had to hold the camera above my head to keep it dry. My wife stood on the beach, shaking her head at my recklessness with a relatively new and expensive piece of gear, but the risk was well worth it. This easily ranks among my favorite photos that I've taken, not just for the shot itself, but also for the memory of witnessing something so spectacular in such a beautiful setting. * * * * * * * * * I'm offering an open edition of 16x20" prints of this photo on archival photo paper or aluminum. All profits will go directly towards rescue and rebuilding efforts in Puerto Rico. Metal prints come ready to hang with a float mount for $150 shipped; archival paper prints are $75 shipped. Message me at Clamslarock@gmail.com to order, or for inquiries about custom sizes. (This is a high resolution image, so it looks great at larger sizes-- the IG image above does not do it justice.)

@queenandreaone brightening up a rainy day in NYC. Shout outs to the hot dog vendor who let me stand under his umbrella so my camera didn't get soaked. ☔️🌭

Breaking out the deep cuts... Sonet & Cezoe (Acne) in the Hells Kitchen Amtrak tunnels, 2002. I was so entranced when I stumbled on these pieces that I almost let some track workers roll up on me. I was shooting film and it was pretty dark in this spot, so I wasn't sure if the photos would come out. I'm so glad they did, as I never made it back down there. #RIPacne #boxkutterbuddiez

A few shots from the mid-aughts. #RIPacne #RIPSure

We only hung out a handful of times, but I always admired your work. The one time we got to paint together meant more to me than I would tell you. Rest In Peace Josh; my condolences go out to the friends and family you leave behind. #RIPacne

After passing these for 10 years, I finally happened by when the gate was open. #SMARTcrew
