Come to my class! 9/24
Just when we thought we couldn't love Corey anymore ... she wows us with beautiful inspiration. We asked her about her motivation to teach our next Good Karma class! Read on and be surely moved ... Q. What does "Good Karma" mean to you?
A. Corey: "Good Karma to me means giving a part of yourself to the greater good. Just like the idea of karma, you hope that your positive actions in this and previous lives will provide a positive life for you in the future. I believe Good Karma is using yoga and fitness to bring attention to different causes and provide future generations with a great life!" Q. Why have you chosen to support the Alpha-1 Foundation?
A. Corey: "The Alpha-1 Foundation helps to provide care and support for people with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency while also funding research on the disease. We found out that my dad had Alpha-1 when I was really little and my understanding of the disease grew the older that I got. My dad had to have infusions regularly while I was growing up and in 2012 he passed away from cirrhosis of the liver because of Alpha-1. Having to get tested for the disease myself a few months after his passing was one of the scariest things I have ever had to do, so now I take any opportunity I can to help raise awareness and fund support of other people with the disease!" Q. For those who are unfamiliar with Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1), what is one thing you'd people to know about the disease?
A. Corey: "There's so much I would like people to know about this disease! The main things though would be that it effects both the lungs and liver, and you could have Alpha-1 and never even show symptoms! Both of your parents have to be carriers of the disease in order for you to get it. It can be a really tricky diagnosis. My dad had it for years before anyone finally figured out what it was, it shows itself as emphysema or asthma a lot." Q. If there's anything you'd like your students to take away from this class, what is it?
A. Corey: "I would love people to leave my class with a smile on their faces and the realization that yoga is for absolutely anyone!
