Chantal  Trying to openly discuss grief, mental illness & all things real in colourful outfits ❤️Supporting small business 🐞Sustainable living (trying) 📍BNE

Alrighty. It's time to sort my winter wardrobe. I'd been trying to ignore the fact that winter was coming since unpacking winter clothes seemed like the dumbest thing to do as I try and pack the rest of the house for moving. That's led to some interesting questions about having winter clothes that you store away each year. This was the normal in my house, Mum had a big chest and when winter was over we'd all put our thick coats and winter pj's away in it till the next year. It's something I've continued to do in my adult life without even thinking about it. But since mentioning it to several people there has been a real divide in having winter clothes you stash away and just living with the one wardrobe all year. So how do you do it?
...
I personally feel the heat and the cold to extremes so I really do need two totally different wardrobes. But last year I threw (or donate) most of my winter clothes away because I had worn most of them to their death. So this year I'm trying to buy pieces that can work with my existing wardrobe and have layering options.

I try to mostly buy second hand or locally made clothing but I did head to @targetaus to pick up few Winter knitwear jackets since they are having a $25 and under sale on all knitwear till midnight Wed 29/5 (this is not an ad just a bargain tip). Winter jumper pictured and mega warmth points.

David got these shots on Saturday morning after we had a great morning out (mostly because we weren't doing house inspections for the first time in a month) and it started raining out of nowhere. They might be some of my favourite photos ever because I was feeling the joy in my heart and the joy from the rain plus the wind was working wonders on my hair!
...
FYI @jerichoroadclothing have a 20% off sale starting at 7pm tonight (still not an ad and just a love for sales).

Feet Up Friday with my fav new glitter @twoobs and a dog I don't own. So you know, the normal.
...
I wish I was currently resting feet up with a dog in my lap, but I've spent the morning sorting through more of Dad's collection and I'm now heading to my therapist (who is located a close 50 mins away) to talk about the feelings I'm having as a work through, sell and say good bye to Dad's belongings.
...
This snap was shot at Easter when I turned up to David's family Easter and there was an extra doggo there 👌 As an only child going to David's family events with 13 people (that's just immediate family) who I luckily adore but I still often find myself feeling overwhelmed, there's nothing better than a doggo to cuddle with! And maybe a wine 🍷This cutie is Willis and was a top-notch cuddler. Anyone else have a big family-in-law? It's such a crazy idea that these people you knew nothing about 5 years ago become your family. I'm very lucky David's family is amazing, I can't imagine the anxiety if that wasn't the case.

This snap was taken on my last day of house hunting because today I signed the lease to my new place *does a happy dance*.

After finding cute town houses closer to the city and getting all excited about the new places I'd discover, I ended up getting a place further out in Rocklea. Why? Because my 20 year old cat and 16 year old dog deserve a one level house and a backyard to sunbake in for their final years. Basically, I picked the perfect pet retirement house. As David said 'this is what happens when you make a choice when you're 8 years old. You're actions have consequences'. 😂
...
I'm so excited for a new house and a new little beginning. The backyard is also big enough for chickens and David hasn't said no so ... 🤞

In a very bitter sweet moment I said goodbye to Dad's cricket book collection.
...
Don't worry, I still have thousands of books to fill my days sorting, but this is a huge first step in getting my house and my life back.
...
I'm still waiting for the relief to hit me that they are gone. At the moment I'm left with this hole in my heart, feelings of guilt and fresh reminders that Dad is gone. Everyone around me is delighted they have gone and I fully understand why they are happy for me. But for me it's left me with very mixed and complicated feelings.
...
I hope I've done Dad proud with the respect, time and love I've given the books. I hope they fill bookshelves all around the world with happiness.

On Friday I spent my day delivering flowers for @flourandbloom and the joy of Mother's and Nan's that had blooms sent them from their family overseas warmed my heart. Plus plenty of dogs pats were had. It was also nice to push myself and try a job I've never done before. I did forget the anxiety that comes with that but the time spent not looking at books was bloody refreshing!

Couldn't wear more appropriate earrings than these daisy beauties from @coloursandhoney who currently have some Double Daisies in stock/is making some one-offs. But get in fast because this will be her last daisy batch for a while. Can't wait to see what she creates next!
...
Also here's to that natural light and blasting air con to give me a well lit wind machine to snap a selfie in.
...
@flourandbloom are open 7am till 12pm tomorrow for anyone who forgot it was M-Day tomorrow.

Feline fine in my new earrings from the amazing collab by @theoddspaceau x @denzandco. I was lucky enough to win these beauties a few weeks ago and just as lucky to have @deadshot.photography capture their beauty, and Oakie's resting mad face 😂
...
Her look of anger (which is there even when she purrs) plus her colouring makes her the purrfect accessory to these earrings (see last photo for similarities and me looking like a cat stage Mum). As does this beautiful smock dress from @jerichoroadclothing 💛
...
Congratulations to Oakie for making her modelling debut at 20 👏 She is living proof you're never too old to try something new 😉

THIS GUY.
Not only does he let me dress us in matching @jerichoroadclothing (a birthday present I bought for him, which was 100% for me) or chop the top of his head off to fit more of the shirt in the pictures but he just came in to show me the website he has created to help search for houses 😍
...
It pulls information from the several sites I've been pulling my hair out searching through and it puts it all in one place I can add notes to, make check boxes, mark viewing times and search for key features that matter to us as a family. He knows how much I love to make lists and notes!
...
House searching has proved to be something that my anxiety is not handling. Shitty houses, terrible real estate agents and edited photos also don't help this fun process but luckily my permanent plus is one is tech smart aerospace engineer and even though I sometimes feel as dumb as rock when he talks, he builds me things (and fixes everything I break) to make my life easier. Now let's be honest, he himself doesn't always make my life easier 😂 but he's worth it. Every damn day. Halleloo for David!

Happy Birthday week to @bambabambashop 🎉 (and a person happy birthday week to the lovely lady behind Bamba Bamba's stunning creations Sharon). I now own more pairs of Bamba Bamba earrings then I would like to say but they are so unique, light weight and most importantly, as colourful as a rainbow playing with paint. Sharon is also a top notch human and this week has a bunch of new products, giveaways and surprises, so show her page some love. I'll be uploading my latest Bamba Bamba goodies on my stories soon (don't judge me, this girl loves a sale).

➡️ Swipe to see my outfit of the day. How good is this jeans weather? 😍
Love this design from @jerichoroadclothing and if you're looking at grabbing a piece I would advise going down a size.
...
Also note these photos were taken before looking at 9 rental houses and none of them being suitable. Hence why I was still smiling 😂 But let's keep it real and make a note that this happy face didn't stick around for long.

🐣 Happy Easter Lovely Ones 💛

I'm normally delighted if a new dress matches a pair of my earrings, but this time I'm delighted my new dress matches my ears 😂🐰

This photo is extra special to me because it's our last Easter in our little home 🏡

Easter is a hard time for me with grief, some of my strongest memories of Dad are of around this time and I feel overwhelmed with waves of sadness and loss.

Yesterday David and I decided to make an effort to get away from book-hell and make a day that was just for us and filled with distractions. Cue an epic day of failed attempts. We headed off to our usual go to @lonepinekoala only to see that every person in Brisbane had decided that was a good idea. After not being able to even enter the carpark we decided to take a pass on that one. The sky was turning blue so we went home and packed a picnic. Bet you know where this is going, two crackers into our picnic the rain hit hard and we bolted to this cute little gazebo that was somehow not water proof 🤦 (but I wasn't going to let that stop a good picture moment 🙅) We then headed to Avid Reader Bookshop for a coffee and a read. FYI the coffee shop has moved and if that wasn't sad enough, David looked around the book store and said 'oh wow, we have so many more books than this place' 😂 So we headed home to our own book shop and watched bad movies and pretended that the day we set aside to cheer me up had not just totally bummed us both out. But I will say this. I was distracted. I was out of the house. I had my cute @jerichoroadclothing Platysuit on and I spent time with David. So really, in not at all the way we had planned, we succeeded in our task.
... Grief is hard. Dealing with grief is real hard. Understanding it and getting comfortable with it is helping me adjust to it but some days it just feels like holding a koala would be better option.

So stoked I found @heytigerco just in time for Easter! I've had the best year finding small business and more ethical ways to shop but was stumped when it came to Easter. Enter my very own Easter Tiger. Hey Tiger is made in Australia from ethically sourced Chocolate. They partner with not for profits to fund development projects in cocoa farming communities in West Africa.
...
Their flavour combos are insane and their branding and graphics are bangin'. They also have Vegan bars which I can not wait to try.
...
Here's to finding new ways to make better shopping choices. Also wrapped my Easter gifts in tissue paper from my new @twoobs to help my attempts at #sustainableliving
...
📌 A small statement from their website - When we created Hey Tiger we didn't want you to buy it because you felt like it was the right thing to do... we wanted you to buy it because it's amazing! Our mission was to make an amazing brand that just happens to be a social enterprise under the hood.
The cocoa industry has some problems. Big problems. Between 60% and 70% of the world's cocoa comes from West Africa, and lots of the farmers there are living under the poverty line. There's a lot of child trafficking and child labour, and the industry is responsible for a lot of pain and suffering for children and families in West Africa. It felt really wrong that something that gives us so much pleasure and joy could be such a negative force in so many lives. So we decided to do something about it.

Posting because good things come in 3 - or is that bad things? Either way, @jerichoroadclothing and @deadshot.photography got me feeling like a damn good thing. #feelingmyself #noshame
