I get asked what this thing actually is a lot and because it’s been so beneficial to myself I’m going to tell you about it. It’s called an I-sopod isolation tank and it’s filled with a solution of water heated to the same temperature as your skin and Epsom salts so that you float in it. Once the lid is shut and the light goes out you float inside the tank for an hour without seeing, hearing, smelling or feeling anything!
So, why do it?
This type of REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy) is basically a way of supercharging your mind and your body healing. It’s also called sensory deprivation, which is pretty self explanatory. Being deprived of most of your senses leaves the brain with not much to do, so you can reach very relaxed states such as those when in a deep sleep. To get really technical, this generates theta brainwaves which are associated with stress and anxiety reduction, a boosted immune system and increased intuition in the brain...which means enhanced concentration, improved memory function, increased learning ability and creativity. In theory you can actually program your own subconscious using this method of deep relaxation, something I’m currently working on! Other people use it for sporting injuries and to alleviate symptoms of arthritis and general aches and pains, which I also benefit from due to my fractured spine from years ago.
I use @timetofloatstafford and I cannot recommend highly enough, everyone should try it at least once 😃 #holistichealth #mentalclarity #wellness
