JUST CRUSHING IT!
It has been just over a month since the Mississippi Drive Corridor project officially began with jackhammers and excavators tearing up the pavement between Sycamore and Pine streets. The concrete and other material was hauled to the former Beach Lumber site to await a new life. That came with the arrival last week of a concrete crusher that turned the old concrete into sub-base material that meets DOT specifications. That recycled sub-base was then used to begin the reconstruction of Mississippi Drive starting at the Sycamore intersection. Another pile of crushed recycled material that includes concrete, asphalt, and other material, was milled to DOT specifications for back-fill and will be used later in the project. Project manager Bill Haag said that the ability to use recycled material is good for the environment, reduces costs, and is great sub-base material that is readily available. #cityofmuscatine #muscatineiowa #recycling #stonecrushing #mississippidrive #riverfront
