ANZAC Day 2018 is a commemoration of the 103rd anniversary of the ANZAC spirit, honouring the memory of our military service men and women. CIT floristry students have been hard at work in the lead-up to ANZAC Day, creating and packing buttonholes for the @awmemorial ANZAC Day services. CIT has partnered with the AWM for many years to supply the buttonholes, providing students with the opportunity to gain real experience working for a significant event on one of the most important commemorative days of the national calendar.

As part of its annual conference, @australiantrucking partnered with the @cbr_in and @teletracnavman to host a hackathon centred on truck driver fatigue management. FatigueHACK aimed to create new technologies, designs, products and partnerships that could influence policy direction in trucking road safety.

The event hosted software developers, designers, industry experts, researchers, regulators and truck drivers from all over. We are proud to congratulate the creative CIT Transformers team for their award winning smart phone App that is designed to open up more spaces for truck drivers to rest when they need to, as well as use smartphone assistants like Siri to help drivers find and book truck rest stops, ensuring they can pull over when they need to rest. Well done to all participants! Check out the full story in our bio 😉

The annual National Sausage King Competition is run by the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) and earlier this month CIT hosted a fantastic event bringing together butchers and CIT apprentices from all over the ACT and NSW region. Meats were reviewed for taste, flavour, texture, composition, creativity and were measured across six categories.
We congratulate Southlands Quality Meats Mawson with their awesome lemongrass beef burger coated in shredded coconut, Country Pride Sausages Lyneham for their traditional beef and pork and, continental sausages and Meatways Butchery Kambah for their spicy Persian lamb with dates, fetta and figs.

CIT culinary students welcomed to their kitchens six students along with lecturer and chef Timothy Kao, from Temasek Culinary Academy in Singapore. Here for a week, our visitors exchanged industry skills and expertise, as they immersed themselves into Australian culinary culture. They shared all things desserts with our final year students, and a highlight was preparing a range of artisan breads in our pastry kitchen.
Of course they could not leave town without a regional taste of Canberra. They visited a vineyard in Murrumbateman, a game and fine food producer in Hall, and explored Braddon’s pop-up restaurant culture, before winding up with a staging opportunity at the Rotary Club of Hall Farmers Market at EPIC, where Chef Timothy drew a huge crowd to sample his classic Singapore Crab.
