Chrystal Evans Hurst  Living my life. Finding my way. Sharing the journey. Hoping to inspire others as I go. #chrystalhurst #chrystalevanshurst #shesstillthere

Have you ever felt as if your life experiences disqualified you from achieving your goals?  Well, you aren’t alone in that. I hear from women all the time who wonder if it is still possible to reach their dreams based on where they’ve come from or what they’ve been through.  They question if they can muster up the faith, gather up their strength, or choose to exercise the discipline necessary to move things forward in their lives. The answer to that question is yes!
.
Mahisha Dellinger talks with me on this episode of the podcast and shares her journey from working in corporate America to following her passion and launching a multi-million dollar natural hair care line. One of my favorite things about my chat with Mahisha is her willingness to admit that along the way she has needed help -- and that she has been willing to seek out the help she needed. Cuz ya’ll we all need help sometimes.
.
Mahisha and I also talk about:
.
* What to lead your life
* The importance of discipline
* Discovering what you don’t know
* Financial responsibility and children
.
I have loved learning about Mahisha Dellinger’s story because she reminds me that anything is possible with prayer, help from others, and discipline.  And anything is possible for you too. We can accomplish all that we set our minds to if we will simply take the first step and never look back. Set your goals, step out on faith, and work hard until you get where you want to go.

When they said silly faces, apparently I was the only one who took them seriously.

Happy Birthday Reesie!!!

Happy 40th Reesie! I love you and love how you embrace adventure. You are intentional and purposeful in how you live your life and I am so proud of who have become and who you are becoming.

As often as I can, I share a picture of my family before I speak.
.
Why?
.
Because the only reason I’m able to go anywhere and do anything is that my family has loaned me out for a bit.
.
It’s a sacrifice for me to be gone.
.
Don’t get me wrong — my husband is all about it and handles the three children still in our home like a rockstar.
.
He’s not the stay-at-home-dad-type, but when he’s at home with our sons, he’s all in and is committed to doing the dad thing well and his way.
.
But my kids do miss me. When I’m leaving they want to know when I’ll be back and they run to the door when I walk through it upon my return.
.
But they support me too.
.
The boys carry my suitcase to and from the car. They clean the kitchen — sometimes when I don’t ask, always when I do. They keep the grocery list updated so I know what to buy when I get home (or order from Walmart to pick up on my way in).
.
They are for me.
.
When I’m gone, my husband makes omelettes to order for the boys. I have NEVER done that. It’s his thing. And he buys them the cereals they like. Honey Nut Cheerios from Costco is all I’ve got.
.
The Mister grills. He fires up the charcoals and grills enough meat for a small army. Honestly, sometimes I’ve come home and focused on the grocery receipt and let negativity escape my lips in the name of frugality.
.
I’ve had to apologize and tell him instead how grateful I am that he stands in the gap so I can stand on a stage.
.
I’ve had to thank him for giving our sons the memory of a father who is present, protective, and providing for our family in unchartered territory.
.
I’ve even come home before to find he’s taken the boys away... with tents...to a campground. A text arriving shortly after I get home to tell me to enjoy a few more hours of quiet until they return.
.
Yes.
.
As often as I can, I share a picture of my family before I speak. Why? Because the only reason I’m able to go anywhere and do anything is that my family has loaned me out for a bit.
.
And their sacrifice and support is worthy of both sharing and celebrating.
.
Thanks @brightmoor_christian_church for inviting me to share this weekend. And thanks to my precious family for making it possible.

Because she’s worth a double post.

She would have been 100 today.
.
I took this picture with her exactly one year before she went to be with Jesus.
.
I’m so grateful to have had her with us so long. Her imprint on all of our lives is strong and lasting. When I think of what she did to have that impact, I’m challenged to do better.
.
She prayed.
.
She served.
.
She worked hard.
.
She loved others not just with her words but by showing up to lend a hand.
.
She loved Jesus more than her own comfort.
.
She never stopped learning and growing.
.
She always looked like a million bucks.
.
She made the best grilled cheese and hot tea.
.
She taught me how to sew and when I didn’t keep working at it, she still carefully did the needlework on my wedding dress — bead by bead with her own two hands.
.
Her hands were worn.
.
Her Bible was worn.
.
Her knees were worn from being on them so often for others.
.
And when she could kneel no longer, we could hear her praying out loud after she’d been tucked in bed.
.
Happy 100th birthday Grandma. Your legacy is ridiculously rich. Your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren still have your name on their lips. And we will make sure that future generations know your name too.
.
We rise up and call you blessed because we are so blessed to have had the gift of you.

Happy 4th Anniversary to my oldest son and daughter. Love and admire you both so much. #farrisloveskariss

Loved spending the evening with @bobgoff. Hoping that these boys forever remember to look at life as a wonderful adventure and an opportunity to work for what will last. #lovedoesbook #everybodyalwaysbook
