Yesterday I had one of the most sacred experiences that I've ever had in the temple.
Most of the time that I was doing ordinance work, I couldn't stop wiping tears from my face. There was so much going through my mind. Among those thoughts were:
-How good it felt to be in the Lord's house.
-How sad I am to leave this temple district.
-How the building, open house, and dedication of this temple literally healed me. (Beauty from ashes.) And also prepared me for what was coming.
-All of the memories I have from spending time inside the temple and outside on the grounds. (Taking photographs, watching the temple be built, ushering at and attending the open house, attending the dedication, participating in all of the ordinances in this temple, running into friends on the grounds and inside, running to the temple, walking around the grounds, planting flowers with my stake, sitting on the grounds, and working in the temple, though for a short time.) This temple, because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, has literally changed my life in a way I didn't think anything could. My life felt so broken, as ashes, and yet it has become more beautiful than I ever dreamed it could be.
The crazy part is how many times I didn't want to go to the temple, but I went any way. (That happened as recently as this week.) Because sometimes I couldn't feel anything, so I thought, what's the point. But the Lord works by small means. And each time I spent even just a minute, even just on the grounds, the Lord was healing me and changing me.
The Provo City Center Temple will always be special to me. I feel blessed that I was able to watch it finish being built. Because of that I had so many special opportunities that I will never forget.
Go to the temple! Go as often as you can! If you don't have a temple recommend, do whatever it takes to get one! Don't wait! And once you have one again, don't ever let it go! The Lord wants you to come unto Him that He can heal you and turn your ashes into beauty.
