I used to hit abs at least 1000 reps a day. This was when I was younger, negatively obsessed with body image and did not understand the rule of over stimulation πŸ˜…

A strong core helps to support the lower back and keep you in a safe position throughout weight training. I work my abs in pretty much every exercise I do, especially those compounds. However they do require a little bit of extra attention and isolation.

I isolate abs twice a week, just at the end of a session. I'll usually pick 3-4 exercises, 15-20 reps of each, then repeat them for 3-4 rounds. Abs are all about the feeling, you want to feel the burn πŸ”₯ it's easy to strain supporting muscles while training them i.e. Lower back, neck etc so really focus on isolating the area your targeting #feeltheburn

My own booty transformation
5 years between these two photos and I worked my booty on to get every cm of it πŸ”₯πŸ™ˆπŸ‘
The booty on the left was over stimulated and undernourished. I over trained and ate as little as I could.

The booty on the right represents hard work, determination and a much healthier body. Squats, deadlifts, glute thrusts, various compound movements. Every rep monitored for perfection. A balanced healthy and consistent diet consisting of whole foods πŸ˜‹

I look at this photo and I see a journey. I'm proud of everything I have achieved and know I am only just getting started.

I promised myself a little mental break over the New Year period, I've still been training and eating well, just with a few treats here and there πŸ¦πŸ˜‹ ultimately, eating more intuitively i.e. When I'm hungry. I have followed a less structured regime and spending time with friends, family and in the waves πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ

When it comes to nutrition it's always easy to look for the quick fix. Coming into the New Year, 'cleanses' and 'detox' diets come into fashion. There's not a one size fits all diet. Quick fixes are a romantic fairy tale πŸ‘ΈπŸΌπŸŒˆ They may give you temporary results but not in the long term nor are they healthy for your body or metabolism. Every plan should be personalised and customised to the individual based on their goals, body type, preferences, metabolic rate, current eating habits etc.

Set up your squat πŸ’ͺ
The most underrated and overlooked aspect of the squat is your elbow position. Your elbows should be kept forward, parallel to the torso and under the bar. This will encourage good posture throughout the squat, helping to keep your chest up and preventing an excessive forward angle. Having an excessive forward angle will transfer the load into your lower back and take away from Glute engagement.

Improper elbow position can derive from either shoulder immobility or just lack of knowledge. In both cases each should be addressed as it will only lead to incorrect muscles being targeted, poor movement patterns, potential injuries annnnndddddd less booty gain πŸ˜±πŸ‘πŸ”₯

Recipe for an good old NZ summer πŸ₯

Ingredients:
🌊 1 x beach
β˜€οΈ Pinch of sunshine
πŸ‘―β€β™‚οΈGood company

Method: ☝️
Using the beach, swim for a solid 20 or so minutes. Then, lay on the sand to dry off and heat. Coat with a layer of sunscreen then lay under the sun, flipping occasionally until golden brown. Avoid over cooking. Complete this process repeatedly.

Throw in a pair of jandals and an ice cream or two and there you have it, a bloody good kiwi summer holiday ✌️🍦

I love it ❀️πŸ”₯ it's when I feel most comfortable with my body. But it doesn't mean I'm the most "healthiest", it's not unhealthy it's just not a level of body fat I could sustain for a prolonged period of time. To promote healthy hormones, brain function and muscle growth we all need a bit of body fat in our life. It's just about finding a balance

When it comes to my body, I'm a perfectionist. If I'm honest with you, I don't know if I'll ever be completely happy, but that's what keeps me motivated to keep driving for a better version of me. Rather than seeing it as a negative, I use it to my advantage. But I have come to learn to still love what I have. I'm no longer competition shredded but I know I'm still lean, my bootys just a bit fuller πŸ‘πŸ™ˆ so I guess I'm beach body ready πŸ˜œπŸ’•
