It’s #givingtuesday and I hope you’ll join me in supporting @blinknoworg, whose mission is to change the world by empowering Nepal’s children. In my two visits to Surkhet, Nepal over the past year, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of their work. They run a children’s home, a school, a women’s center, a health clinic, and a safe home for adolescent girls. Every dollar you give today supports their beautiful vision of a more just world. One more from Nepal. K with her sugar cane. My family and I love this dear girl so much, which isn’t hard to do. She’s glimmer through and through. #capturekopila

Traveling home with a full heart and a deep admiration for these extraordinary young women. Together over the past week—along with my husband Brian and our son Carver—we shot a documentary short about the menstrual taboo in Nepal. As I listened to the girls’ stories I was again struck by the transformative power of truth telling. The film isn’t yet finished. There’s the long process of editing to be done, but the product of our work together feels less important than the work itself. I’m endlessly moved by the courage it takes to write the truest words on the page or find the voice with which to speak into the microphone and steady the gaze directed at the camera lens. These young women did that and more, with laughter, fear, bravery, and heart. Witnessing it left me feeling the way witnessing such creation always does: forever changed.

Yet another universal truth that cuts across every divide: it’s always embarrassing when your mom insists upon taking pictures of you at school. #nepal #capturekopila
