Javier + Yukiko had the best minimalistic wedding day and they couldn't stop cracking up from the moment they saw each other. I don't even have to say anything else, they were a dream for me!

I just blogged all the simple and elegant beauty from their day at @loulupalm and you can click the link in my bio to peep my favorites!

"Live in the moment."
-
That sentence is in pretty huge font on my site. That isn't just something I saw and thought it would make a catchy phrase for my homepage, it's something I truly believe in and I work hard to do. Being mindful isn't always easy, and being so attached to my phone/computer for work makes it even more difficult. So last week when I went to Joshua Tree guess what I did? I LEFT MY PHONE AT THE HOUSE. On purpose. Aaaaand it was awesome.

Everyone is telling entrepreneurs to put themselves and their lives on social media, and these days I feel like there is so much pressure to get video and photo of every single thing I'm doing. I have loved opening up with you guys more but sometimes ya girl just has to live in the moment. I did take my camera and I grabbed a few shots, and then I put it down to just ENJOY.
-
So I urge you guys, on your next trip or even just out at your next dinner, put your phone down. We only get to live this life once, make sure you are fully present for it. Okay, end of rant, namaste.

Have you guys checked out my new site yet? I just did a total redesign and added new images to the galleries (which is a never ending process) and I'm going to bring you more blog posts, even some that are more personal and will let you know what I've been up to.

If you haven't scene it out yet, head over to the link in my bio and then let me know what you think!

This was taken just a few minutes after Dylan's sunrise proposal... spoiler alert, she said, "Yes!"

They set a date for their Portland wedding and guess what?! They are flying me out to capture their big day for them!! I am beyond excited to see them again, and I have to say, it's pretty dang exciting to be booking all over!

Click the link in my bio to see my favorite images from the sunrise proposal - the sky was pretty fantastic and well worth the 3am alarm!

Adam + Yvonne met through scuba diving, and now they are both dive masters. The owner of the shop that they met through gave the sweetest speech at their reception and there was not a dry eye in the house! They wanted to get married on the beach and they had a beautiful ceremony at Secret Island - so perfect for them!

I had the craziest weekend with three weddings in three days! Two of which (including this one with Paulette + Hector) were at the beautiful @loulupalm. These two lovebirds are originally from Ecuador, and if you know me, you know I spent three weeks traveling (and becoming obsessed with) Ecuador earlier this year with one of my best friends who lives there. It turns out the bride's sister is besties with my bestie's sister - talk about a small world!

Now I’m just cruisin’ in Cali giving myself a little time off. The away message has been set on my email, but I will be checking my inbox periodically and getting back with you as soon as I can!

Tomorrow I'm doing one of my favorite things in the world... hopping on a plane! I'm headed to LA mostly for fun, but I'm also fitting a meeting and a shoot or two in while I am there! I have space for one more session - if you are in the SoCal area there are 0 travel fees since I'm already there! DM me if you are interested, or tag your friends who live in the area!

Took this on my morning run and thought, “would this look good on my grid?” Then I was like wtf who cares. So here is an impromptu iPhone to insta photo, minutes after it was taken. The way insta was meant to be. #makeinstagramgreatagain

A few days ago I posted a little something on my story about how June was my best month ever financially, and I got some messages asking me how I did it. I don't know everything about business but I know enough to have been supporting myself on photography for almost a decade and running my business in Hawaii for three years so if you want to do something similar, here is a little bit of advice!
-
Your clients should be your priority. That sounds pretty basic, but with social media it's so easy to get caught up in getting photos that you want to post or what is trendy right now. But what about what your client wants to hang on their walls? Make sure you are serving your clients first and making them a priority. Instagram is secondary.
-
Rethink the term "ideal client." I know a lot of people who think of their ideal client in physical terms and that's an a-hole thing to do. My ideal client is someone who loves my style, HAS to have me as their photographer, and trusts me to create an amazing product for their wedding day or portrait session. I've done the homework and know who exactly that person is for my business, but at the end of the day, my ideal client wants me and loves my work!
-
Don't let your ego stop you from growing. I let mine stop me for a long time, and guess where it got me? In the same exact place I started. No matter how much you know about photography or business, there is always someone who knows more than you that you can learn from. Invest in yourself, attend workshops, get a mentor. Basically: stop talking, and start listening.
-
I get DMs all the time asking me questions like how I took a photo, how I moved my business to Hawaii, how I direct and pose clients - and I love answering! Feel free to drop in anytime. 📷 @emilychoyphotography

I will be back in LA next week and I would love to book 1-2 more sessions while I am there! I get in on the 10th, and will be there for 7-10 days (still tbd). There are 0 travel fees for SoCal since I will already be in the area! DM if you are interested, or tag your friends who live on the best coast!
-
ALSO - this lovely couple is now on my blog, along with all the deets about my mentor session with @evierupp!

This view. These colors. I left the north shore at 3:30am that day to catch the sunrise on this hike. I wanted THIS exact photograph. It's one of my favorite wide shots I've taken.

I have no other words. Comment with the first word that came to mind when you saw this image!

Best wedding party ever?? Possibly!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Bihn and Jover were the SWEETEST! I loved being part of their intimate wedding at the Hapuna Beach Prince hotel on the Big Island. We were there on the island when all the earthquakes started, which was pretty nuts! Luckily we were on the opposite side of the island than the volcano, so Binh + Jover's perfect day could carry on as planned!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Head over to my blog to see more images from this awesome wedding, and read about their love story that began when they were just 13!
